Job Description

A Supply Boat Captain commands and manages the safe navigation and operation of supply vessels and landing craft. They are responsible for coordinating the timely transportation of goods, equipment, and fuel between islands, supervising the crew, and ensuring strict compliance with local maritime safety and environmental regulations.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Vessel Command & Navigation: Take command of the supply boat, plotting safe routes, maneuvering through Maldivian atolls, and monitoring sea/weather conditions.
    Logistics & Transport: Oversee the loading, secure storage, and timely delivery of cargo (supplies, food, and fuel) to resort islands or local communities.
    Maintenance & Safety: Carry out daily inspections of engines, winches, safety gear, and navigational equipment. Ensure the vessel remains seaworthy and well-stocked with passenger necessities if carrying staff.
    Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to maritime laws set forth by the Maldives Transport Authority and the Maldives Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation. Maintain updated ship logs and voyage reports.

Qualifications

Licensing: A valid Captain's License/Certificate of Competency recognized by Maldivian authorities (e.g., Niyami Certificate and Category A, B, C, or D boat driving licenses).

Experience: Typically 1 to 3 years of hands-on experience operating supply boats, cargo dhonis, or landing craft.

Skills: Excellent command of English, proficiency with GPS and radar navigation, and strong crew management abilities.

Physical & Environmental: Ability to work extended hours on the water, withstand diverse and unpredictable weather conditions, and maintain a high standard of professional customer service.
