Job Description

 

Summary:

Operate all machines, on the assigned production line, efficiently and effectively. Perform set up, routine change overs, adjustments, troubleshooting on production line equipment including but not limited to filler, capper, labeler, conveyors, case sealer, box maker, bundler, case packer and other ancillary equipment per line design.

 Identify and communicate with line mechanics, team lead and supervisor problems that keep the production lines form operating at the stated OEE performance targets.

Primary Functions:

·        Behavior: Professional interactions with all business.

·        Attendance: Exceptional attendance is a mandatory requirement. Minimum of 8 hour day including extra hours daily as business needs dictate, Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays. Includes working past shift change to ensure a smooth transition between shifts.

·        Safety: Comply with all requirements of plant wide safety programs and initiatives, including: hazard recognition, housekeeping, accident and near miss reporting, proper use of all safety equipment and procedures, adherence to all Safety Rules and the reporting of safety issues.

·        Leadership: Assist lead operator to ensure production lines run efficiently. Includes but is not limited to:

o   Running the line during the non-change over times.

o   Help establish ownership for cleanliness and smooth operation of packaging lines.

o   Help identify and resolve issues that impede production lines from achieving or exceeding stated OEE performance target.

o   Serve in a mentorship capacity. Drive and in-still proper change over guidelines and procedures by demonstrating them in day-to-day activities.

o   Exhibit mentality that no job is too small or insignificant to not be done correctly and with a sense of urgency.

o   Ability to train and coach line team in change overs.

§  Anticipate and correct problems with initial start-ups, set-ups, and change overs etc.

o   Identify and provide feedback to the maintenance team regarding maintenance issues that needing to be addressed for the line.

Essential Functions:

·        Washout Procedure – Ability to

o   Contact Compounding

o   Call for an air blow, CIP, sanitize

o   Understand the purpose and demonstrate use of a “pig”

o   Perform Specific Gravity checks

o   Perform washout and document per SOP

 

·        Unscrambler – Ability to

o   Explain buttons and switch functions

o   Adjust machine so bottles stand upright

o   Set air settings and speed controls

o   Remove and replace all change parts

 

·        Filler/Capper – Ability to

o   Explain buttons and switch functions

o   Adjust fill levels

o   Understand and explain target fill – why not to be exceeded

o   Remove and install filler/capper parts

o   Change/adjust/troubleshoot capper chucks

o   Understand importance of screen configuration in filler stems

o   Adjust filler/capper rails

o   Understand the height of the filler and capper and impact on machine

o   Time feed screws and transfer stars

o   Adjust cap shoot

o   Adjust capper height, gripper belts and adjust torque

 

·        Labeler – Ability to

o   Remove and replace all change parts

o   Set correct labeler height for the bottle

o   Adjust feed screws and dispense tips

o   Adjust product and label delay times and amount of flag

o   Adjust labeler for correct label placement

o   Set spacer chains as required

 

 

Essential Function Skill Level (Proficiency required or demonstrate that proficiency can be achieved):

·        Demonstrate understanding of lock-out/tag-out procedures

·        Exhibit understanding of plant safety

·        Select and differentiate appropriate use of various hand tools

·        Demonstrate appropriate care of hand tools

·        Identify safe use of ladders, crossovers and other reach tools as applicable

·        Demonstrate knowledge of appropriate set-up procedures

·        Disassemble, repair, and correctly reassemble machinery/equipment for change over purposes

o   Test operation of newly changed over machinery/equipment

·        Ability to use scales, tape measures, wrenches, screwdrivers, sockets and other hand tools to preform change overs

6+ months of production line manufacturing experience

Physical Demands:

·        CRITICAL TO THE JOB: Standing & walking – 90% of time on job; sitting 10% of time on job; lifting (minimum 30 lbs) 10% of time on job; - pushing & pulling (minimum 45 lbs) 35% of time on job; repeated rotation of the wrists - 66% of time on job; climbing stairs & ladders (8-20 ft heights) – 15 times per day; stooping, kneeling and bending - 60% of time on job; hearing; vision (fine detail – 80% of time on job; distance – 30 ft); tracking moving objects - 80% of the time on job.
