Job Title: Shift Supervisor – 1st shift

  

POSITION SUMMARY: The Shift Supervisor is responsible for the direct supervision of Line Leaders, making operational and personnel decisions
related to scheduling production lines as well as the quality of the finished product. The individual will direct and coordinate through subordinate Line Leader personnel the activities of the label storage, label control and both preventive and restorative maintenance on all production and facility equipment; supervise staff and ensure that company safety procedures, personnel policies, and administrative procedures are implemented. 

Essential Functions:  

  1. Behavior: Exhibit team player qualities of cooperation and coordination; professional interaction in all business contacts, all day,
    every day 
  2. Attendance: Present for work when scheduled is a mandatory function.
  3.  Safety: Your compliance and enforcement of all company safety rules, procedures and guidelines is essential. Reporting of safety issues is mandatory.
  4. Assign employees to production duties and establish or adjust work procedures to meet production schedules.
  5.  Observe start-up procedures; identify problem areas; assist in developing and implementing corrective action.
  6.  Inspects products to verify conformance to specifications.
  7. Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
  8. Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
  9. Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  10. Develop and implement continuous improvement activities to increase OEE and reduce waste.
  11. Determine root cause analysis of operations issues, integrate corrective actions to correct the issues, and then sustain preventive
    actions to prevent reoccurrences allowing for overall team success. 
  12. Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.
  13.  Maintains time and production records.
  14. Performs activities of workers supervised.
  15. Discuss with appropriate department supervisor any discrepancies which occur in the production schedule or process; develop
    appropriate action.
  16. Recommend hire and discharge, evaluate performance, recommend for salary increases and promotions, train and instruct
    employees. Resolve employee problems; approve, compute, and record employee hours on time cards.
  17. Attend daily production meetings to ensure understanding and communication of daily procedures, changes to schedules,
    current and potential problem areas.
  18.  Coordinate the work between departments, i.e. label control, compounding, production, maintenance, and warehousing.
  19. Coordinate products needing rework and ensure finished goods are delivered to warehouse.
  20.  Insure proper processing, handling and storing of hazardous, flammable material such as nail polish remover, etc. in accordance
    with local, state and federal guidelines.
  21. Monitor and maintain the tote inventory status. 
  22. Must have a “Can do, Go to” personality.
  23. Must be a team player with the ability to empower employees. 
  24. Direct housekeeping to maintain clean environment.
  25. Take hourly production line counts and post on board.
  26. Order, distribute and maintain inventory of all supplies for Production, Maintenance, Housekeeping and the lunch room.
  27. Recommend supplies to be ordered and at the manager’s direction place orders for Purchase Orders provided.
  28.  Ability to work on any shift and occasional weekend shift if needed.
  29. Additional duties as assigned. 

 Qualifications: 

Knowledge/Education: Bachelor’s Degree required with courses in manufacturing, operations, and material handling or general business or Industrial Engineering preferred. Thorough knowledge of manufacturing methods and techniques employed in assembly operations. Demonstrated supervisory and administrative skills. Demonstrated leadership and management traits including the ability to motivate people while engendering their respect and support. Proficient with MS Office products. SAP knowledge preferred 

 

Experience: Minimum of four years production management and four years’ experience as a supervisor preferred. Computer literacy and the ability to quickly learn specialized inventory and manufacturing software used at Vi-Jon. Excellent oral and written communications skills to provide direction to subordinates and interact with other managers; to provide written direction, reports, and correspondence within Vi-Jon and to outside agencies. A non-compromising attitude to operating safely in the plant for the health and welfare of all associates. Lean Manufacturing experience preferred. 

 

Physical Demands / Visual Acuity: Standing and walking in the position can require being on your feet the entire shift; other activities are:
sitting, climbing, stooping, reaching, grasping, hearing, talking, pushing, pulling, and kneeling. Occasionally assist with
lifting boxes/bundles from 5 to 16 lbs. Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more and 20 inches or less with the ability to judge distance and space
relationships and bring objects into sharp focus. Requires continuous visual and mental attention. 

 

Environmental/Atmospheric Conditions: Worker will be exposed to ambient noise level in a manufacturing environment. Worker exposed to physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts. Worker occasionally exposed to atmospheric conditions such as fumes. An essential element of the Vi-Jon culture is our commitment to diversity.
