Job Description

 

POSITION SUMMARY: Develop/implement robust manufacturing processes and formulas.  Develop master formula cards for manufacturing use.

FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

 

Essential Functions

1.            Behavior:  Exhibit team player qualities of cooperation and coordination; professional interaction in all business contacts, all day, every day

2.            Attendance:  Present for work when scheduled is a mandatory function.  Work hours may extend pass normal business hours based on the workload of the department.

3.            Safety: Your compliance and enforcement of all company safety rules, procedures and guidelines is essential.  Reporting of safety issues is mandatory.

4.            Develop/implement robust manufacturing processes (weekly).

5.            Develop, prepare, review & approve master formulation records (weekly).

6.            Perform bench experiments prior to pilot batches for feasibility (irregular)

7.            Prepare pilot batch cards & execute/monitor pilot batches (weekly).

8.            Troubleshoot substandard mfg batches and implement corrective actions which requires being on-call 24/7 (weekly).

9.       Monitor scale-up batches in manufacturing both on-site and at contract manufacturers (irregular).

10.     Reformulates and/or improves existing formulas through bench experimentation (irregular).

11.     Creates and/or reviews and approves technical documents to support developmental projects (irregular).

12.     Develop/recommend specs for new and/or reformulated projects (irregular).

13.    Source/approve new and/or alternate raw materials (irregular).

14.    Provide technical assistance related to product formulas to support departments as required (irregular).

Physical Demands:  Standing, walking, sitting, keyboard typing, reaching, stooping, kneeling, talking, hearing, smelling

and  lifting up to 25 pounds.

 Visual Acuity:  Concentrated mental and visual attention; coordinating manual dexterity for sustained periods.  Clarity of

vision at 20 inches or less with the ability to distinguish colors.

 Environmental/Atmospheric Conditions:  Some hot, wet and/or humid conditions. Moderate to loud work environment near

mechanical parts. Fumes or airborne particles as well as toxic chemicals (corrosive materials like acids/bases).

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge:  Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Engineering or related Biological science or equivalent related work experience.  Superior mathematical skills and ability, reasoning and problem solving ability, advanced computer skills (specifically Excel/Access).

Experience:  Four years related experience and/or training as a chemist.

 

Machines, Tools, Equipment and Work Aids:  Systems knowledge required for data inquiry and editing.

 

License(s)/Certification(s) Required: None required.

Qualifications

Experience:  Four years related experience and/or training as a chemist.
