Job Description
About the role
CNBC is investing in its digital subscription business and building new products for investors. We're hiring Senior Manager, Acquisition & Growth Strategy to own how we find and convert new subscribers across paid, owned and partner channels.
You'll report to the VP, Direct-to-Consumer, and act as the team's internal growth strategist, goaled on new subscriber volume. You'll own the levers that turn readers into subscribers: paid acquisition, paywall testing, subscription landing pages and checkout. You'll also help shape pricing and promotional offers. This is a builder role: you'll set up the testing, measurement and media structure that prove what drives growth, then scale what works as the business grows.
Qualifications
Key Responsibilities
- Own new subscriber volume. Set the acquisition strategy and be accountable for gross new subscribers across every channel.
- Lead paywall testing. Design and run tests on meter limits, friction and targeting, balancing subscriber growth against audience and engagement.
- Own subscription landing pages and checkout. Run a continuous testing program on page design, plan presentation, messaging and checkout flow.
- Shape pricing and promotional offers. Bring data and test results to pricing and offer decisions led by the VP, Direct-to-Consumer, and run offer tests in market.
- Oversee paid acquisition across search, paid social, programmatic and app install. Consolidate account structures so platforms get enough conversion volume to optimize.
- Build the conversion signal. Partner with product and engineering on pixel and server-side tracking, custom conversions by plan and term, and conversion values.
- Prove what drives growth. Design attribution windows, holdouts and incrementality tests, and build a measurement approach Finance trusts.
- Activate first-party audiences, including landing-page abandoners and engaged readers, through our CDP and reverse-ETL stack.
- Move at the speed of news. Run a playbook that puts paid and on-site promotion behind major market stories within hours.
- Own the growth testing roadmap across paywall, landing pages, offers and media, with a shared log of results and decisions.
- Manage budget, pacing and forecasting with Finance, and lead agency relationships, including scope, fees and performance.
- Track partner and network promotion, so every cross-promotion and bundle placement ties back to subscriptions.
Qualifications & Experience
- 8+ years in growth or performance marketing, with at least 4 years driving subscriber acquisition for a subscription or DTC business.
- A track record of growing subscriber volume while managing CAC, with budgets in the multi-million-dollar range.
- Hands-on experience running paywall, landing page, checkout or offer tests, and turning results into decisions.
- Hands-on expertise in Google, Meta and programmatic buying, including account structure, bidding and algorithm learning phases.
- Deep working knowledge of conversion tracking: pixels, server-side conversion APIs, custom conversions and conversion values.
- Experience designing incrementality tests (holdouts, geo tests) and explaining the results to Finance.
- Strong grounding in testing and statistics: sample sizing, test duration and reading results honestly.
- Comfort with SQL, spreadsheets and analytics tools, and the ability to build a forecast.
- Experience managing agencies and cross-functional partners in product, engineering and editorial.
- Clear, direct communication with executives.
Nice to have
- Experience in news, media or financial information subscriptions.
- Experience launching a new subscription product or paywall.
- Familiarity with tools like Hightouch, Amplitude, Piano or Braze.
- Experience with app install and in-app subscription campaigns.
- Interest in markets and investing.
How we'll measure success in year one
- New subscriber volume tracking against plan, reported weekly.
- A running test program across paywall, landing pages and offers, with results logged and acted on.
- Paid accounts consolidated and out of learning phases within the first 90 days.
- Conversion tracking live by plan and term, with values passed to every major platform.
- At least one incrementality test completed and reviewed with Finance.
- First-party retargeting and abandoner audiences running across channels.
- The breaking-news playbook used on major market moments.
