Job Description

MS NOW is looking for a Writing Associate Producer for The Briefing with Jen Psaki. 

This position is represented by the Writers Guild of America East. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Write, edit, and produce vertical video content for social media platforms.
  • Develop and produce original YouTube content from concept through completion.
  • Generate daily and long-term original video pitches that respond to the political news cycle.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders to develop new social media franchises and content formats.
  • Identify compelling moments from linear programming and quickly adapt them for social media.
  • Create graphics, carousels, and thumbnails for YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and other digital platforms.
  • Write compelling headlines, scripts, and other editorial copy.
  • Develop innovative ideas to grow audience engagement and strengthen the show’s brand.
  • Produce content for MS NOW’s digital platforms, social media channels, and direct-to-consumer (DTC) products.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as business and editorial needs evolve.
  • Research, write and edit MS NOW’s lower-third banner chyrons, the “front page” of MS NOW’s coverage. 
  • Produce other vital on-screen content for MS NOW’s weekend programming. 
  • Work on content for digital platforms, social media and MS NOW’s DTC products

Collaboration

  • Partner with producers, assignment editors, booking teams, graphics, research, digital, and technical operations to support daily broadcasts and digital coverage.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to changing editorial priorities during breaking news and special-event coverage.
  • Ensure all editorial content meets the highest standards of accuracy, fairness, nuance, and journalistic integrity.

Qualifications

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. 
  • 2+ years of experience in some form of journalism required in television news, digital journalism, social media editing, producing, writing, or a comparable newsroom environment or newspaper).

  • Proven experience editing and producing original digital video.
  • Strong scriptwriting skills and the ability to shape stories for digital video audiences.
  • Strong editorial judgment and a demonstrated commitment to accuracy and nuance.
  • Ability to manage multiple original projects and priorities simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines.
  • Strong understanding of major social media platforms, their audiences, and platform-specific content strategies.
  • Proficiency with native editing and publishing tools across social platforms.
  • Strong research, writing, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced newsroom environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to editorial accuracy.
  • Ability to comply with MS NOW Standards and Practices.
  • Strong research, writing, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated interest in U.S. politics, current events, and breaking news.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting tight deadlines in a fast-paced newsroom.

Additional Job Requirements: 

  • Must be willing to work in New York, NY, or Washington, D.C.
  • Must have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.
  • Must be willing and able to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as required for breaking news and special-event coverage.
  • This position is designated as hybrid.

Salary Range: $75,000 - $80,000
