Job Description

As Workplace Engineering Manager, End User Compute, you will be the technical architect and strategic leader for VERSANT’s end user compute platforms, shaping how unified endpoint services are designed, secured, and scaled across a rapidly evolving environment of 9,000+ managed devices and growing through M&A. This role is not a traditional software engineering management track; instead, it is engineered for leaders with deep experience in end user compute, workspace services, and enterprise workplace tooling.

You will lead a multi-disciplinary engineering organization responsible for architecting standards, defining platform direction, and driving security-by-design practices across the end user compute stack. While your teams own operational execution, you are accountable for setting the vision, architecture, principles, and governance that guide large-scale endpoint and workspace solutions.

A core expectation is to embed security by design across endpoint platforms, identity, device posture, data protection, observability, and compliance, working closely with the Cyber Security organization. You will also partner with Workplace Product & Operations to ensure platform architectural alignment with strategic business requirements, service quality, and user experience expectations.

This role is aimed at seasoned workplace engineering leaders who understand enterprise device ecosystems, large-scale endpoint governance, and multi-tool platforms — not purely software development or application delivery teams.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • Extensive experience leading large end user compute or workplace engineering functions, with responsibility for defining architectural strategy, platform standards, and enforcement practices
  • Deep technical understanding of the Microsoft end user ecosystem (Microsoft 365, Office 365, Windows 365) and associated services
  • Established experience with VDI and virtual workspace solutions, including:
    • Image and configuration architecture
    • Platforms such as VMware Horizon, AWS Workspaces, and localized virtualization solutions (e.g., Parallels)
  • Experience governing and supporting enterprise storage and collaboration platforms, including:
    • OneDrive
    • SharePoint
    • Google Drive
    • Dropbox
  • Proven track record with endpoint management and governance platforms, such as:
    • Microsoft Intune
    • JAMF
    • Nexthink and/or TeamViewer DEX
  • Expertise supporting and harmonizing services across Windows, macOS, and Linux endpoint environments
  • Familiarity with enterprise observability and compliance tooling to support architecture and operational visibility, including:
    • Microsoft Purview
    • Datadog, Splunk, Grafana, Dynatrace, or comparable platforms
  • Experience managing mobile device management environments (standardized on iOS/iPadOS)
  • Experience leading or overseeing Physical Security Engineering functions (badging/access control and security camera systems)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary engineering teams (14+ engineers) spanning onshore and offshore execution
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration experience with Cyber Security and Workplace Product & Operations
  • Ability to translate business, security, and operational requirements into scalable architectural frameworks and enforce platform standards

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience guiding large workplace engineering organizations through platform evolution and tool rationalization
  • Proven ability to define architectural guardrails that balance security, performance, and operational cost
  • Background in environments with high compliance, security, or regulated requirements
  • Strong communicator capable of engaging technical and business stakeholders and influencing decisions without direct authority
  • Demonstrated commitment to driving consistency, automation, observability, and operational excellence across workplace platforms
