Job Description
The Opportunity
Versant is seeking a PEP Transmission Coordinator to support Transmission and Acquisition operations in a fast-paced live environment. This freelance role helps manage signal flow, routing, quality control, monitoring, and communication across assignment desk teams, bureaus, remote sites, control rooms, Versant partners, and affiliates.
Why This Role Matters: The Transmission Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring live and recorded content is delivered clearly, reliably, and on time across news, entertainment, and sports coverage. This role helps keep teams connected during daily coverage, planned events, evolving stories, and breaking news.
This is an onsite role based in New Jersey and is required to be performed full-time from a Versant-designated worksite. Candidates must be flexible with assigned shifts to support relief coverage, breaking news, and a 24/7/365 operation. This role is overtime-eligible.
What You'll Do
- Route, monitor, and quality-control incoming and outgoing feeds and streams across news, entertainment, and sports coverage.
- Communicate with live control rooms, assignment desk teams, bureaus, field crews, remote studios, partners, and affiliates to support daily transmission needs.
- Support remote contribution using technologies such as LiveU bonded cellular, terrestrial vendors, satellite, and IP solutions to optimize signal quality.
- Book and schedule remote facilities and transmission resources as needed to support coverage plans and production needs.
- Troubleshoot signal, audio, video, data, and continuity issues with strong attention to detail and urgency.
- Partner with Versant O&T Engineering and Incident Management teams to resolve equipment malfunctions, technical issues, and outages.
Qualifications
What You Bring
- 1–3 years of proven experience in live-to-air television operations.
- Experience in a TOC/NOC or comparable operations environment with responsibility for audio, video, data quality, and continuity.
- Hands-on familiarity with transmission facility hardware, including LiveU, satellite receivers, antennas, IP/ASI encoders and decoders, and video plant router control panels.
- Ability to meet strict deadlines in a quick-turn, evolving live production environment.
- Strong critical thinking, diagnostic ability, attention to detail, and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment with minimal supervision.
- Flexibility to work assigned shifts, overtime, relief coverage, breaking news, and a 24/7/365 operation as needed.
