As a Junior IT Database Technician at our Harare office, you will engage in a broad range of IT functions within our ICT Services Team, focusing on both systems and database administration. This role is ideal for bright and versatile individuals, possibly already engaged in IT or as a hobby in their spare time and eager to develop their IT Skills in an advanced enterprise environment.

Key Responsibilities

Database Administration: Oversee the administration, monitoring, and performance optimization of our relational database management systems (RDBMS).

Platform Administration: Using our Infrastructure-as-code approach, manage and configure software and hardware systems, ensuring efficient operation and alignment with business needs.

Maintenance & Support: Conduct regular system and database maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and provide technical support across the organisation.

Security Oversight: Research, Implement and monitor industry best practice for securing Databases and their operating environments

Project Involvement: Participate in IT projects, including system upgrades, migrations, and the integration of new technologies.

Educational Background:

Strong academic record with a minimum of 5 O Levels (including English, Maths, and a Science) and 2 A Levels (preferably in Science or IT).

A degree in IT or Computing Science is advantageous but not required.

Technical Skills: You will be comfortable working with Linux operating systems at the  command line. Proficiency in at least one scripting language (Python, Bash, Ansible).

Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving capabilities with an analytical approach to troubleshooting. A good understanding of basic command line data manipulation tools (RegEx, sed, grep)

Communication: Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Professionalism: We require a high degree of discipline and professionalism. You should be comfortable researching and adapting to industry best practice, meeting deadlines and being generally well organised and professional in your conduct.
