About the role
Verisk Maplecroft’s geospatial risk datasets assessing political, human rights, environmental and economic risks are the core of the company’s offering. You will lead the team responsible for maintaining and improving these datasets. Your numeracy skills, attention to detail, commercial awareness, project management and leadership skills will ensure that the datasets are delivered on time to clients with the highest level of accuracy and that new developments meet client needs. This will involve managing resources within the team, as well as working with others from across the business. As someone with strong quantitative skills, you will have the opportunity to be creative through supporting the development of new datasets that align with the company’s data strategy. You will be based in London, Bath or Edinburgh and report to the Head of Data and Analytics. We strongly encourage you to write a covering letter as part of your application.
About the day-to-day responsibilities of the role
- Managing the update cycle of the company’s geospatial risk datasets with support from the rest of Data and Analytics while managing a team of analysts to ensure timely delivery of updates with a focus on quality assurance.
- Working with the Technology team to transition the update process towards a highly automated approach.
- Working with the Product team to ensure clients are realizing maximum value and utility from the flagship dataset and, where applicable, to develop new applications for applied analytics.
- Working with the Head of Data and Analytics to develop and deliver the strategic vision of the flagship dataset in response and in anticipation of client demand, competitive offerings, and industry, regulatory and legislative trends.
- Improving the data offering based on client demand, feasibility, and expected return on investment. This aspect will grow as the automation of the update cycle increases.
- Supporting colleagues and clients with questions on the datasets.
- Working collaboratively with functions across the business, such as Sales, Marketing and Research teams.
Qualifications
About you
- Master’s Degree level (or equivalent) qualification in a subject with a quantitative focus (required)
- Technical skills: Advanced Excel skills (required), experience of using geospatial analysis tools e.g., Arc, QGIS (preferred), experience using Python for data analysis including relevant statistics and visualizations libraries (preferred).
- 3+ years of line management experience (required)
- 5+ years of work experience in a quantitative role (preferred)
- Domain knowledge, either through qualifications or work experience, in one or several of human rights, politics, the environment, or economics. Relevant qualifications would include subjects such as environmental science, political science, international relations, economics etc. (preferred)
- Experience working in a client-facing role with proven ability to communicate complex information to non-technical audiences (required)
