Job Description

We monitor key events and conduct research to produce thought-provoking reports, data models, and presentations. From asset valuation to corporate reports, from market supply-demand research to price-forecasting, and from the regional to the global, our analysis helps shape our customers’ commercial strategies. Our analysts are instrumental in Wood Mackenzie’s purpose to transform the way we power our planet.

We also support bespoke consulting projects, diving deeper into our data to answer unique questions. We help our Sales team retain and win new business by spending time with customers and answering questions that matter to them. We work closely with colleagues in our Data and Product functions to maintain the quality of our published data and to deliver content via our growing Lens platform.

You will support our research team to conduct industry analysis and produce high-quality reports for clients. Over time you will gain specialist knowledge and develop the skills you require to progress your career at Wood Mackenzie.

Main Responsibilities

  • Research gathering – You will collect and analyze data from various sources, such as industry reports, company filings, and news articles. This data is used to conduct industry analysis and produce reports and tools for clients. To be effective in this role, you need to be able to identify relevant sources of data and analyze them in a meaningful way.
  • Process improvement - You will contribute to making internal processes more efficient. This may involve finding ways to streamline data collection or identifying areas where automation can be used to save time. By making these improvements, you will help your team to work more effectively and free up time for other tasks.
  • Data analysis - It is important to ensure the accuracy and completeness of Research materials such as data tables, charts, and graphs by verifying data and sources. These materials will be used to support the analysis conducted by your team and may be included in presentations or reports for internal and external stakeholders. You will be assisting with data cleaning and preliminary data analysis. This entails working with datasets and ensuring that they are accurate, complete, and free from errors or inconsistencies. It may include applying basic statistical techniques or data visualisation methods to explore the dataset and gain initial insights.

Additional tasks - This may include conducting ad-hoc research, preparing briefings, or responding to client and internal inquiries. As a Research Assistant, you will need to be flexible and able to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines. You will work closely with other team members to meet project deadlines

Qualifications

Where you have been is important, but we are more interested in where you can go. We are looking for Research Assistants with a genuine passion for the energy and natural resources sector and who have the potential to grow at Wood Mackenzie.

Your application should highlight your enthusiasm for the sectors we cover and demonstrate your ability in the following areas, which we require daily at Wood Mackenzie.

  • Ideal candidates are either recent graduates or individuals with 0-6 months of experience with strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Experience with data collection and analysis preferred (not mandatory).
  • Required: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Preferred: Experience with MS Access, Power BI, and the Microsoft 365 Toolkit (Power Automate, Power Apps)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated interest in the energy, metals and mining, or chemicals industries along-with prior research experience is preferred (not mandatory).

  • We are a hybrid working company and the successful applicant will be expected to be physically present in the office at least 2 days per week to foster and contribute to a collaborative environment, but this may be subject to change in the future.
