  • Full-time
  • Verisk Business: Maplecroft

Company Description

We help the world see new possibilities and inspire change for better tomorrows. Our analytic solutions bridge content, data, and analytics to help business, people, and society become stronger, more resilient, and sustainable.

Job Description

Company description

As organisations strive to understand and adapt to a fast-changing world, we empower them to put the environment, human rights and political risk at the heart of their decision-making. We do this by providing unparalleled intelligence on sustainability, resilience and ESG – stitching together these disparate issues into an interconnected global view, built upon objective insight and data.

By thinking ‘big picture’ we capture what matters most to our partners; making positive outcomes possible in a time of change; helping people, business and societies become stronger; creating value with values.

About the role

Our well-established Sustainable Procurement and Human Rights team has been at the forefront of the ongoing evolution of business and sustainability strategy, management and research for over 20 years. This team operates alongside — and in close collaboration — with multi-disciplinary teams responsible for creating innovative products and consulting solutions related to Climate & Resilience, ESG Reporting and Political Risk.

As a Principal Consultant, you will primarily lead project teams and work with clients to ensure that their business practices align with international standards, domestic laws and norms related to environmental and social (E&S) issues. You will also assist clients by developing and helping to implement strategies to address the actual and potential E&S impacts of their operations and supply chains.

The role provides an excellent opportunity to contribute to the wider work of our Corporate Risk and Sustainability team in developing innovative new products to help our clients positively impact the sustainability agenda at scale.

A degree of domestic and international travel will be required for short periods of time (i.e. days rather than weeks), depending on project requirements, travel restrictions and personal circumstances. The successful candidate will also be encouraged (and enabled) to participate in external sustainability initiatives / communities of practice to enhance their ability to create positive impacts, experience new working contexts and develop stronger professional networks.

About the Day-to-Day Responsibilities of the Role

As a key member of our Sustainable Procurement and Human Rights team, you will lead or work on a range of projects for our clients. This is likely to include:

  • Managing the delivery of consulting projects in the fast-evolving world of sustainable procurement and human rights, such as advising clients on strategy formulation, governance arrangements, due diligence and remedy processes, regulatory compliance, and external reporting

  • Conducting company diagnostics and risk / impact assessments to help clients identify, prevent and mitigate potential negative supply chain impacts (often leveraging our proprietary country, industry and commodity risk datasets to drive the assessments)

  • Participating in a range of business development activities, including needs assessment, project scoping, proposal writing, commercial and contractual negotiation (in close collaboration with sales and account management colleagues)

  • Contributing to client engagement and brand awareness activities, including creating engaging thought leadership material, presenting at conferences and webinars, roundtable facilitation, etc.

  • Supporting the maintenance and enhancement of existing subscription-based products (such as our subnational human rights indices and written Insights) through expert analysis and research

  • Helping to identify opportunities to convert consulting solutions into scalable, subscription-based products, working in close collaboration with Product, Sales & Marketing, and Analytics teams

  • Providing leadership, training and guidance to junior colleagues within the Sustainable Procurement and Human Rights team and to those from other teams contributing to your projects (we envisage there will likely be line management opportunities in time)

Qualifications

About you:

  • At least five to 10 years of supply chain and sustainability experience, preferably through in-house or consulting roles
  • A track record of practical experience managing and successfully delivering supply chain and/or sustainability-related projects
  • Good understanding of procurement documentation including supplier codes of conduct, supplier performance management (SPM), KPI development, on-boarding/off-boarding etc.
  • Strong knowledge of international sustainability standards and norms (particularly the UNGPs), and key national regulatory requirements and trends, particularly as they relate to business
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Good research, report writing and analytical skills
  • Microsoft Office proficiency, particularly PowerPoint and Excel; Awareness and proficiency with Microsoft Power Bi would be advantageous (opportunities for upskilling will also be provided in the role)
