Job Description

Role Purpose

Research Analysts conduct original quantitative and qualitative research on the market and deliver analysis through the creation of data services, written reports, virtual and in-person presentations, and custom research engagements. This role in particular will focus on data collection, data analysis, and working with large datasets to get the most out of our comprehensive project-level data on millions of distributed solar projects across the US. It would be preferred for a candidate to have some experience in the solar or renewable energy industries. But we are also looking for someone with data analysis skills who is willing to apply those skills to our unique and proprietary distributed solar data.

Wood Mackenzie Power & Renewables promotes analysts as industry experts and as such, analysts must be thoughtful, intellectually curious, creative and comfortable presenting to public audiences and interacting with small groups of executives. Analysts are expected to take complex, disparate ideas and distil them into simple, provocative concepts. Key responsibilities of the role will include aggregating and summarizing project-level datasets, writing reports, communicating with key industry stakeholders, and tracking distributed solar market activity.

Main Responsibilities

  • Assist Wood Mackenzie Power & Renewables leadership in expanding and strengthening coverage of the U.S. distributed solar markets
  • Identify and acquire data sources, both qualitative and quantitative, on U.S. distributed solar markets.
  • Manage and process multiple complex datasets for delivery to team members utilizing Python scripts and SQL databases
  • Conduct data analysis and analyze trends within our proprietary datasets to create new data products or models for clients that can guide their business decisions
  • Where appropriate, write research reports regarding trends, vendors and strategies across the solar landscape
  • Present to clients and industry stakeholders at trade shows, Wood Mackenzie conferences, and other events
  • Collaborate with peers across Wood Mackenzie to support research reports, conferences, marketing services and editorial coverage
  • Work directly with sales and marketing via internal and external communications to help generate new sales, build larger programs for existing clients and effectively market research
  • Consult with clients to apply Wood Mackenzie’s solar research in the context of their specific business environment, and help solve their problems through inquiry, advisory and other custom research opportunities

 

Qualifications

Knowledge and Experience

  •  Experience with data management and analytics platforms. Python and   SQL are strongly preferred.
  •  Excellent problem solving, documentation, communication and   organization  skills, and attention to detail
  •  Proven analytical capabilities – both qualitative and quantitative
  •  An engaging nature, capable of connecting with co-workers, clients and   industry stakeholders in a wide range of professional settings including   giving presentations
  •  A deep intellectual curiosity about what drives markets based on economic   principles
  •  Strong listening, critical thinking, presentation and writing skills
  •  Interest in the major players, current events, and trends in U.S. residential   and commercial solar markets
  •  Some experience or background (2+ years) in the solar or renewable   energy industries would be preferred
