Job Description

With COP26 fresh in the memory, and the Russia-Ukraine conflict bringing new waves of uncertainty to mined commodities, understanding the drivers of future-facing commodity markets has never been more important.

Understanding and leading research into decarbonisation as a key value driver, and the mounting pressure on the industry to meaningfully align with a 1.5 degree C warming scenario represents a significant opportunity for personal growth.

The Energy Transition & Battery Raw Materials Team has recently launched new products with market-leading depth and breadth to help our clients address the significant challenges posed by the ’inexorable trends of electrification, and decarbonisation. We are looking for a dynamic leader to drive the commercial success of these new products and strengthen this accomplished team.

  • To effectively manage larger teams to deliver research publications and/or other work programmes in your region/sector/specialist area, on schedule and within budget
  • To manage junior managers, where required, senior experts and junior team members to deliver consistently high performance
  • To recruit, develop and retain the right people and establish open, supportive and dynamic team environments which deliver success
  • To ensure a consistently high level of quality in all research and/or activities in your region/sector/specialist area, in terms of data, process and analytical integrity, and the quality and impact of publications
  • To ensure that your team is proactive in maintaining a broad range of productive relationships with industry contacts in your region/sector, or internal customers. 
  • To ensure that your team remains current on the latest industry/technology developments and demonstrate awareness of business/client priorities.
  • To ensure that your team collaborates effectively and proactively with other WoodMac teams such that analyses/data are ‘consistent’ and there is close alignment on pan-sectoral issues
  • To contribute to the commercial success of the markets services, supporting sales and consulting

Key Responsibilities

  • Regularly contributes to technical direction and/or strategic decisions for their work area.
  • Manages budgets, plans, policies, and programmes that implement business strategies and objectives set by senior regional or functional management.
  • Leads, directs, evaluates, and develops teams of senior professionals to ensure high-quality content delivery according to objectives.
  • Where appropriate, maintains a range of suitable-level relationships with operators and clients, and engages regularly with them, to understand their needs and enhance WoodMac’s reputation for industry-leading proprietary data, analysis and expertise.
  • Where appropriate, ensures that their team delivers high quality, perceptive analysis of key themes to WoodMac clients, enhancing WoodMac’s reputation for analytical excellence.

Qualifications

  • Superior people management and leadership skills to hone and maximise the value created by diverse talents within our team.
  • Experience in the process of developing, and commercialising commodity related research, through roles in research, corporate affairs, business development, industry thinktanks, financial appraisal and/or similar functions.
  • A thorough understanding of the trends and drivers that are shaping the energy transition, and the role played by the mining industry, as it responds to policy, and develops new commercial pathways.
  • An intellectual curiosity and drive to explore and address the key challenges faced by our clients.
  • A service mind-set and the ability to build relationships with senior decision makers.
  • Experience within consulting, with a strong knowledge of consulting processes is an advantage.
