Verisk Maplecroft is seeking a Software Engineer (Applications, Infrastructure, Operations) to join their DevOps team based in Bath.   You will be creating, supporting and optimizing applications and services that run in Amazon Web Services (AWS). The role requires experience in application development, cloud computing concepts, hands-on technical skills, an appetite to master new technologies and excellent communication skills.

In this role you will work to engineer and continually improve our applications and their supporting infrastructure.  As part of the Devops team, your role is to understand requirements and assist our technical teams in the design, build and maintenance of consistent, secure and efficient applications utilizing AWS architecture.  This will involve work on CI/CD pipelines, local environment setups, deployment configuration, monitoring and alerting, and application changes to make best use of AWS products and services.

About the Day to Day Responsibilities of the Role

Application Development

• Translating application requirements into workable code changes and infrastructure as code
• Creating and maintaining local and deployed application environments
• Designing and building effective CI/CD pipelines that automate workflows as much as possible
• Creating a consistency of approach across a variety of applications

Operational Support

• Maintaining the security posture of our applications in line with our SDLC and security guidance
• Monitoring and updating applications to ensure high availability, scalability, and fault tolerance
• Integration of applications with monitoring tools and alerts to gather key information for use across the team
• Identifying and pursuing potential cost or efficiency savings to deployed infrastructure and workflows

About You and How You Can Excel in This Role

Must have:

• Commercial software development / coding experience 
• Experience working in Python, TypeScript
• Familiarity with AWS architecting, engineering and serverless approaches
• Knowledge of containerization, docker and docker-compose
• Able to administer a Linux environment
• At least one AWS Certification or able to gain certification within 3 months of hire (supported by the company)

Good if you have:

• AWS CDK, SAM or CloudFormation experience
• Familiarity with Django
• Experience building web applications
• Able to be productive in a scrum/agile development process
