Job Description

What will I be doing?

Your role will be responsible for the continued maintenance, development, and integration of the EPSI Platform. This product is a fundamental power forecasting platform with focus on Europe and Asia, and deals with a variety of modelling techniques commodities, optimisations, broad set of technologies, datasets, and cross industry requirements. You will help drive the development and integration of this product.  We will need you to ensure adherence to best practice in building modern software architectures with well-designed APIs.

  • We are looking for software developers with strong back end coding capabilities in Python. If you have previously used Perl and now moved to Python then that would be ideal.
  • We are also looking for someone with a strong data engineering foundation gained in developing commercial applications with traditional (SQL, My SQL, Postgres, etc) Databases  

Our Tech Stach as it stands is...

Primary language is JavaScript (Typescript), we also have back-end services in C# and use Python for data ETLs

  • AWS
  • React with Redux and Apollo
  • GraphQL and RESTful APIs, built in NodeJS running on AWS Lambda and ECS-CloudFormation
  • Micro-services approach to back-end architecture
  • Data stores using DynamoDB, Postgres, Elasticsearch and S3
  • Jenkins and BitBucket (some teams use git-flow based branching strategies, others do trunk-based development)
  • Docker and Docker Compose for local development
  • Bash for some convenience local and pipeline tasks

Qualifications

Ideally you have experience and/or interest in:

  • Have experience across the stack building web-based applications (using a modern front-end framework), setting up, and deploying to infrastructure in a cloud environment
  • Are product-minded and can work effectively with product and design disciplines
  • Recognise that people build software, and collaborating is key to success
  • Are a keen learner and like to share knowledge too
  • Love building resilient and scalable software
  • Good communicator, both in written form and face to face
  • Are curious about how best engineering practices can be used for solving business problems
  • Can break down problems into small iterations
