Verisk is seeking an atmospheric scientist with scientific programming skills to join our Weather Solutions division based in Lexington, MA. Working remote may also be considered for this position. This small, growing team is responsible for developing and maintaining products and services that aid clients in the insurance, restoration, and related industries in effectively responding to natural catastrophe events. A successful candidate will have at least 2-5 years of academic or professional experience in the field of Meteorology. Knowledge of severe convective weather is desired. Experience in at least one of the following areas is a must: weather radar, weather modeling, hurricane, or data assimilation. A strong scientific coding background is desirable. The candidate will interact closely with scientists, product managers, and software and development engineers and must be comfortable interfacing with these different roles.

• 2-5 years experience with C++, Python or similar in an academic or commercial setting 
• Proficiency in Linux/UNIX, shell scripting
• Direct experience working with meteorological observational data
• Minimum two years of related work experience or an advanced degree (MS or PhD)
• Demonstrated experience in software development of scientific, geospatial, or engineering algorithms

• Software version control systems
