Job Description

Wood Mackenzie Power and Renewables provides a one-stop integrated subscription, analysis and advisory service for companies in the energy and related sectors, enabling our clients to make the best decisions within a constantly evolving global energy industry.

Our cutting-edge knowledge of solar, wind and energy storage supply chains, technology, and investment trends, added to in-depth modelling and coverage of traditional fuels and assets, gives Wood Mackenzie a unique advantage to offer best-in-class market forecasting and insights. 

We are looking for a Power Market Consultant to join our dynamic and expanding Energy Transition Practice in Asia Pacific.   The successful candidate will be responsible for fundamental market analysis including the use of power models, updating our proprietary databases,  working with other team members to improve market forecasts, and supporting delivery of high-impact and original research to clients.   This analytical role is based in Beijing and is pivotal to the success of the team.

Joining a team of global power and renewables experts, you will quickly contribute to our power market analysis and research in Asia Pacific.  You will work with a team to collect power market data and support power modeling and forecasting.  Strong data and modeling skills and willingness to learn new skills will be key to success in this role.  

With guidance and reasonable editorial inputs from the Research Director, you will also contribute to and independently prepare high-quality, insightful reports, publications and presentations to influence clients’ business decisions.   You will have opportunity to build and maintain relationships with a range of experts in the power & renewables, battery storage, coal and gas-related spaces.   You will also occasionally support the successful execution of consulting projects working closely with the Energy Transition consulting team, under the guidance of a supervisor or senior experts 

You will build strong understanding of China and Asia Pacific power market dynamics, being able to effectively discuss recent events and implications with clients and colleagues.  This includes collecting market information as needed to complete quantitative or qualitative tasks assigned by the supervisor or senior content leaders. Through research trips, client interactions and industry events you will pro-actively build your network to understand the key topics and challenges in the industry and implement the latest ideas into power modeling and research deliverables.

Qualifications

The role is ideal for an early-career professional who a high aptitude for quantitative analysis and modelling, is passionate about understanding the latest trends in the energy industry, and is looking to develop a career as a recognized power sector expert in the energy transition space in Asia Pacific.  The successful candidate will be expected to have the following qualities, qualifications and experience:  

  • High interest and aptitude for power market analysis and modelling.  Relevant on-the-job training will be given to the selected candidate.
  • 2-5 years of work experience in an analytical role ideally at a well-known company in the power & renewables industry. Good understanding of power markets including technologies, regulations, economics and companies is important for this role.

·        Enthusiasm, curiosity, willingness to work hard and expand knowledge and skills, and the ability to tackle challenging questions and rethink conventional wisdom

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline such as engineering, sciences, computer science, or economics; graduate degree is a plus
  • Relevant experience in data management: working knowledge of Python programming and SQL databases is a major plus
  • Strong organisation, planning and time management skills to work to deadlines
  • Proactive and accountable
  • Effective writing and presentation skills
  • The ability to work as part of a team across multiple locations
  • Commitment to excellence and growth through role modelling
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Fluency in Chinese and English, both spoken and written
