Job Description

The Research Associate will support the development and maintenance of databases and reports for our growing Power & Renewables practice. These responsibilities will include collecting and synthesizing market intelligence through data gathering and direct client / survey outreach to support data modelling and research products. The Research Associate will update, maintain, and develop data tools for a variety of purposes, including the analysis of utility-scale PV and battery projects across the U.S., vendor market shares, installation costs, and deployment trends. Key responsibilities of the role will include data management, extraction, and visualization activities, as well as report and insight generation in support of the fundamental analysis efforts of the team and our clients.  

Main Responsibilities

  • Assist with new data collection on solar and energy storage technology trends, policy and regulatory drivers, project deployments, pricing, and competitive landscape.
  • Assist with the development of original market analysis, research, and consulting with a culmination in client deliverables and industry thought leadership pieces.
  • Build, populate, maintain, and create new datasets and models to ensure timely capture of current industry trends.
  • Provide support for client and industry stakeholder presentations at trade shows, Wood Mackenzie conferences, and other events.
  • Produce reports and data as required to support our research deliverables and consulting engagements.
  • Collaborate with peers across Wood Mackenzie to support research reports, conferences, marketing services and editorial coverage.
  • Work with other teams across Wood Mackenzie to leverage internal expertise and maintain the consistency and integrity of data.

This role will serve as part of the Global Power and Renewables team, with a focus on solar and energy storage markets, technologies, and competitive landscape. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing team and make a major contribution to expanding a power research practice from its foundation. Combining propriety data with market simulation tools and models we help clients make sense of market trends in the rapidly evolving solar and energy storage industries. Wood Mackenzie directly serves clients across the energy value chain, from technology manufacturers to developers and major utilities.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Experience

  • Interest in renewable energy and the broad transformation of the electricity sector
  • Excellent problem solving, documentation, communication and organization skills, and attention to detail
  • Strong technical background or technically-minded individual
  • Strong organizational skills and an eye towards collaboration
  • An engaging nature, capable of connecting with co-workers, clients and industry stakeholders in a wide range of professional settings
  • A deep intellectual curiosity about the effect of a wider business landscape
  • Superior listening, critical thinking, and writing skills
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills are required
  • Experience in the following are preferred, but not required:  VBA, SQL, or Python
