Job Description

As a software engineer in Wood Mackenzie, a Verisk company, you will work with our top financial analytics in energy industry both from internal and external clients to develop applications in big data analytics to support them to make important investment recommendations or decisions.  You would see immediate impact of your work with the effort you put in. You will be challenged to continue adopting and developing cutting-edge digital technologies on software, as well as data platforms. You will be the best in the field from working on our team and leading and contributing to our initiatives.

About the role 

This role will be part of the advanced data pipeline development team. The mission of this team is to develop data pipelines with the latest cutting-edge technologies and use it to support conventional Oil & Gas data analytics. It will further to support and scale up the operation through applying the new technology across various sectors including power, renewable, metal, commodity, etc. You will be part of a very talented team as well as our partners including AWS.  You will be thrilled everyday as being at the very frontline of data engineering and analytical technologies. The role will be located in Houston, TX.

The level of appointment to which band on the company banding structure will be dependent on your skills, experience and capabilities demonstrated at assessment prior to offer of employment.

Qualifications

We would like to invite the candidate who had strong software development background plus good knowledge on statistics and machine learning to join our team.

Required (or must have) qualifications/skills:

  • Software development experience is a must
  • Familiar with the software development lifecycle including architect review, unit test, software deployment and maintenance.
  • Strong object-oriented programming skills and proficient in Python.
  • Some experience with container-based application development and deployment.
  • Experience working with AWS technologies
  • Familiar with data warehousing, data ingestion, and data profiling
  • Knowledge in relational databases.
  • Experience in application development on Hadoop/Spark. In depth knowledge of building/operating highly available, distributed systems.

Preferred (or nice to have) qualifications/skills

  • Experience in big data development on Hadoop or Spark frameworks. In depth knowledge of building/operating highly available, distributed systems of data extraction, ingestion, and processing of large data sets.
  • Working knowledge of statistical models and machine learning algorithms
  • Familiarity with deep learning and reinforcement learning
  • Understand the application of signal processing
    • Desired education and/or certification
  • Master or higher in computer science/computer engineering, or equivalent industry experience
