Job Description

Wood Mackenzie is looking for a future focused Senior Software Engineer with excellent problem solving, teamwork, and communication skills to join our industry-leading data analytics company. We are headquartered in Edinburgh where our team is working on a next generation, data analysis & visualization platform utilized by our customer to drive billion-dollar decisions.

Role Purpose 

This role will be responsible for the implementation of our reimagined core product offerings that deliver Valuations of Oil and Gas assets across the world. You will have the opportunity to get involved in technical direction, architecture design and the look and feel of the product.

About the Day to Day Responsibilities of the Role

Our tech stack is predominantly built upon AWS services including S3, ECS, and Lambda with our service build in.Net following best practice Software Engineering process. We will need you to ensure adherence to best practice in building modern microservice architectures with well-designed APIs. This role will involve:

 

Delivery

·       Lead implementation and delivery ensuring coding, unit testing, system integration, defect resolution, and technical documentation adheres to our standards and project deliverables;

·       Manage escalations from project teams, proactively identify problems and work towards resolutions in a collaborative manner balancing customer value and technical debt;

·       Actively promote and set coding best practices including code reuse and readability;

·       Responsible for the overall technical quality of project deliverables;

·       Ownership of technical project needs and communications;

·       Manage your own time, and work well both independently and as part of a team.

 

Collaboration

·       Work in collaboration with team members to perform scoping, estimation and technology feasibility tasks for the intended solution;

·       Manage dependencies among engineering activities and constantly monitor, assess and control the technical execution;

·       Address technical queries and elicit, prioritize, and negotiate changes to requirements and defects;

·       Work in collaboration with test engineers to triage, manage and resolve issues and defects;

·       Encourage a collective code ownership and learning culture;

·       Build trust and confidence, and develop cross-departmental relationships.

Qualifications

About You and How You Can Excel in This Role

The person that fills this role must be a self-starter with a strong work ethic, energized by a challenge, passionate about bringing great products to market. You’ll have an excellent technical foundation with proven experience in systems development at scale using .NET/C#, and possibly either Java, Python or React. 

 

Your skillset

·       Proven experience in conceptualising, documenting, and developing customer-facing products and applications;

·       Hands on expertise with agile methodologies and comprehensive understanding of modern patterns and practices: unit testing, inversion of control, repository, MVC, etc;

·       Expert level knowledge of multiple technology stacks, object-oriented design approaches and enterprise design patterns;

·       Comfortable with managing technical debt and working with legacy codebases;

·       Experience with leading, coaching and mentoring individuals and teams;

·       Extensive knowledge of modern enterprise and cloud architectures (e.g. microservices, serverless, event driven, reactive);

·       Hands on experience with application optimisation, scaling and security.
