Job Description

We are looking for a Research Analyst to join our Short-Term refining and product markets team in China/Singapore.  Our Short-Term refining and product markets team is responsible for the development of the short-term outlook for refinery product supply and pricing analysis; a key output of our market fundamentals service. As a team, we provide detailed analysis on the latest global refining and product markets outlooks, supply fundamentals, product pricing and crude differentials. We provide regular reports and updates on the market, authoring comprehensive topical insights and analysing current refining trends. The integrated nature of our analysis and refinery modelling gives you exposure to our proprietary data and modelling capabilities to assess the dynamics of the different refined product markets globally. Together we work with a range of clients including national and major oil companies, operators, investment banks and institutional investors.

About the role

As part of a world-class team of industry experts in the Oils Research Team, you will analyse all aspects of the short-term refining and products markets, assessing key events and commercial developments.

The role offers the opportunity to develop forecasting and other analytical techniques, as well as enhancing your industry knowledge, by working with our experienced oils research team. Together you will generate a detailed view of the Asian short-term refining and products markets and the principal risks and uncertainties the industry faces. You will be a source of insight, internally and for clients, on the structure and trends in the Asian refining and products market.

As part of a team you will review, prioritise and analyse industry data and information, and populate and run proprietary models to support the production of short-term refining supply, pricing and market forecasts. You will use the results of this work to produce quantitative analyses and qualitative reviews of the highest quality: thought-provoking articles, presentations and reports.

You will develop an understanding of the impact of corporate strategies, business environment, global markets and regional geopolitics on supply and pricing mechanisms. You will become comfortable articulating Wood Mackenzie’s Short-term refining and product markets outlook and the broader downstream oil market to clients and prospects. Through research trips, client interactions and industry events you will pro-actively build your network to understand the key topics and challenges in the industry. You will address these in your contribution to our regular research deliverables and through development of specific articles and webinars.

Qualifications

About you and how you can excel in this role

You are passionate about the short-term oil market analysis and developing an in-depth understanding of the energy sector. You are highly numerate, with a strong attention to detail and proven analytical and problem-solving skills. This enables you to formulate leading-edge analysis from a variety of data and information. You are focused on continuous improvement and implementing better ways of working. You have effective interpersonal and communication skills. This includes the skills necessary to present your findings to industry participants at a range of levels and to effectively communicate complex and detailed market analysis with clarity and impact. You have a proven ability to work as part of a team, making a tangible contribution to team goals, involving multiple locations. Experience using Microsoft Office (Excel, Power Bi and PowerPoint) is required, coding experience will also be beneficial.

In addition, candidates must have:

·       A proven interest in refinery supply and global oil markets with a minimum of two years experience in a similar role within the energy industry

·       A Bachelor degree in a relevant discipline

·       Fluent English language skills, both oral and written
