Job Description

Genscape is seeking a talented intern to work within the North American Power team to broaden Genscape’s internal datasets set as it relates to Power products. The prospective applicant will analyze disparate datasets to improve foundational metadata for Power software applications as well as improving tools to automate this process. While in the internship, the successful applicant can expect the following:

What you will do and learn:

  • Be able to show proficiency in utilizing data analysis tools and data sets to create a gold standard deliverable.
  • Crossmatch and verify the mapping of data sets related to power systems. For example datasets such as power buses, substations, branches to geography, outage, congestion, and other available information
  • Work on the development of new tools and processes that will enhance the combination of disparate data sets.
  • Identify and pursue potential performance, reliability, and process improvements.
  • Work with analysts on the North American Power team to understand the usage of this data and the importance of accurate metadata.
  • Gain valuable experience and exposure with the current growth within business of Web-based applications or SAAS (Software As A Service) products

Throughout your internship, you will know you’re successful if:

  • You demonstrate a strong initiative to provide value in a highly collaborative team environment.
  • In your first 30 Days, you would know and understand the workflow process of the data collection and manual combination of disparate data sets, and gain in-depth knowledge of the NA Power market.
  • In your first 60 Days, you would know and understand the workflow and process of Genscape power products in the consumption of the metadata created from disparate datasets.
  • By the end of your internship, you will deliver your production-ready metadata and understand the full stack of technologies used in combining this data set.  

Qualifications

  • You have or are working towards a Bachelors's degree that requires analyzing, processing and integrating disparate data.
  • You have experience with SQL, PLSQL, Python, Image Processing, Google Earth
  • You are familiar with source control systems like Subversion, Git, etc.
  • You are detailed oriented
  • You have a strong desire to learn new technologies fast 
  • You possess excellent analytical, written and oral communication skills
  • You like flexibility, can deal with ambiguity and like to work on multiple projects
  • You can work in a dispersed team environment
