Job Description

Wood Mackenzie has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Software Architect to join a fast paced, dynamic global business to help drive change, innovation and make intuitive high-level decisions for software development. This is an opportunity for a ‘big picture’ thinker to apply their vision and create architectural approaches for software design and implementation to guide the development teams.

A great candidate has an excellent technical background and outstanding communication skills. The candidate should be able to approach the problem space from any number of vectors and be able to clearly articulate the pros and cons of each vector.

About the Role

The principal responsibility of this role is to translate Product Strategy into a set of Architecture blueprints and executable plans, and to direct and support delivery through definition of principles, guard rails and design materials. Depending on context, that responsibility may involve authorship of materials, or oversight of the work of others.

Main Responsibilities

  • Collaborating with key stakeholders to determine functional and non-functional requirements for new and legacy applications
  • Using tools and methodologies to create representations for modules, components and sub-systems
  • Developing high-level product specifications with attention to system integration, maintainability, performance/scale and feasibility
  • Define all aspects of development from appropriate technology and workflow to coding standards
  • Oversee progress of development team to ensure consistency with initial design
  • Provide technical guidance and coaching to the engineering team
  • Ensure software meets all requirements of quality, security, extensibility, maintainability and observability

Qualifications

About You and How You Can Excel in This Role

To be successful in this role you will have;

  • A technical mindset with great attention to detail
  • Excellent knowledge of enterprise software, application design and architecture
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills
  • A solid understanding of software quality assurance principles
  • Familiarity with JavaScript based single page application design and implementation
  • Solid understanding of.NET, Java and Node based application with demonstrable mastery of at least one of those technologies along with its tooling and ecosystem
  • A solid understanding of data modeling techniques from both a relational perspective and a NoSQL perspective
  • A deep and abiding understanding of AWS with some exposure to Azure

You will require;

  • Extensive architecture and design practice on enterprise-based application
  • Demonstrable experience with at least 2 different enterprise class application preferably with two different organizations or domain spaces
