About the Role

Wood Mackenzie Chemicals provides integrated commercial and strategic subscription research and consultancy services for the chemicals, fibres, films and plastics sectors. We provide insight combined with proprietary data, helping companies identify trends and take advantage of opportunities.

You will be a key member of the Intermediates & Applications team, leading our global coverage of plastic films & flexible packaging research. You will produce high-quality analysis in the form of thought-provoking reports, presentations and articles and will contribute to bespoke consulting projects. You will also participate in major industry events and conferences.

The plastic packaging industry is at a critical juncture and represents one of the key global issues of the modern world. Through your research and insight, you will have the opportunity to be at the forefront of this industry. The drive towards sustainable packaging solutions is the key theme for our clients and understanding the market dynamics between the different packaging materials, from virgin to bio-based polymers and paper, will be a critical part of the role.

Main Responsibilities 

• You will generate global analysis of the oriented plastic film and flexible packaging markets in our short- and long-term services
• Maintain and improve in-house databases of industry information including inputting, updating and checking the consistency and integrity of data
• Conduct primary and secondary research to build, expand and improve the quality of our proprietary data
• Reviewing, prioritising and analysing the data and information which you gather and using it to produce quantitative and qualitative commentaries for in-depth reports and presentations of the highest quality
• Respond to internal and external customer enquiries regarding analytics provided in research materials
• Work closely with Wood Mackenzie’s analysts to develop an integrated view of the chemical supply chain
• Establish relationships with clients, building on existing business contacts, establishing rapport and trust, particularly with individuals in sales, marketing and buying functions
• Work closely with the sales and marketing teams to service clients and grow the client base

Through your research and responding to client queries, you will build your network of contacts at key companies and industry associations. Your contribution to our industry-leading written reports, supply-demand models and presentations will be valued. You will get the opportunity to travel. 

About You and How You Can Excel in This Role

The successful candidate will have substantive experience in an analytical role. Relevant industry knowledge of the packaging and/or chemical sectors would be advantageous. You will have good knowledge of commodity product behaviors, and capability to identify key drivers (such as macroeconomic indicators, industrial/consumer activities, domestic prices, etc.) so that their effects on production, demand and trade flows are quantified in a model per each product and sector.

You are comfortable collecting and interpreting data, articulating your findings in a clear and insightful manner. You also have a flair for written communications and confidence when presenting your insights to small and large groups.
