Job Description

Team Profile 

Wood Mackenzie has an exciting opportunity to join a fast paced, dynamic global business to help drive change and innovation. We’re looking for someone who can provide a blend of hands on technical and managerial responsibilities who will be responsible for managing and controlling core infrastructure and network services. Constantly optimising to meet the needs of our rapidly growing organisation.

Role Purpose 

The principal responsibility of this role is to provide operational leadership and expertise to a multi-disciplined technical team.  This will involve managing various teams and suppliers globally in a role that is split between 70% hands on and 30% Management. Working in partnership with the business and the technology teams the role encompasses:

·       International team mentoring and project coordination

·       Implementation and maintenance of global infrastructure, both on premise and in the cloud

·       Infrastructure roadmap ownership with input to technology strategy

·       Roadmap ownership and promotion of automation

·       A strong focus on service availability and proactive detection of problems

 

 

Main Responsibilities

•         Ability to drive performance in technical and operational groups through the development of process, policy, procedure and guidelines

•         Ownership of problems and incidents

•         Ability to continuously identify areas of improvement to evolve monitoring, performance and high-availability of systems

•         Support the design & implementation of infrastructure strategy

•         Apply experience and best practices in evolving cloud based infrastructure

People Management

•         Role will be part of a wider IT leadership team

•         Role holder will directly manage technical leads and may have more reports in future, both direct and / or on a ‘dotted line’ basis.

•         Role will require mentoring and providing guidance to infrastructure engineers

•         Role holder will be managing staff both and teams based in multiple locations and time zones

Knowledge & Experience

Essential:

•         The successful candidate will have a solid technical background with experience working in an infrastructure department. 

•         Strong communication and management skills

•         Familiar with budgeting and management of projects including experience of planning and implementing new systems

•         Accomplished analytical & decision-making skills

•         Experience of Linux and Windows Server platforms

•         Familiar with network architecture and design concepts and practices

•         Familiar with Software-Defined Networking concepts and practices

•         Familiar with VMWare, SAN Storage and hyperconverged infrastructure

•         Knowledge of IT Security fundamental concepts and practices

 

Beneficial:

•         Experience with Microsoft technologies including Active Directory, Server Management and O365

•         Experience with Cloud hosting (AWS preferred)

•         Experience of network integrations and cloud migrations

•         Experience of implementing infrastructure as code and wider service automation

•         Experience with workplace and end user mobility and security platforms

Experience with remote application delivery services (Citrix preferred)
