Job Description

This position is responsible for developing, enhancing and managing vulnerability component and overall model performance of AIR’s earthquake portfolio risk analysis models that cover worldwide regions. The candidate will work closely with a team of structural engineers, seismologists, and specialists in financial application of probabilistic earthquake risk assessment. The candidate is expected to be a highly motivated, detail oriented, well organized, and an independent worker and collective team player.

 Responsibilities, but not limited to:

·        Data acquisition, and understanding building inventory and its vulnerability subjected to earthquakes at any interested region worldwide

·        Development of fragility functions and monetary loss curves for structural and non-structural components subjected to earthquakes for the regions of interest

·        Development of regional liquefaction and landslide model

·        Implement the research of building vulnerability into AIR’s earthquake portfolio risk analysis models, and validate its probabilistic risk assessment

·        Real time building damage assessment due to manmade and natural catastrophes

·        Provide technical supports about earthquake modeling and results to AIR’s staffs and clients

·        Technical writing for internal and external publications

Qualifications

·        Excellent written and verbal communication skills

·        Proficient in programming with at least one of C/C++, R, Python, and MATLAB

·        Experience in probabilistic and stochastic risk assessment and modeling, particularly in the field of engineering

·        Strong analytical skills for data analysis

·        Knowledge of structural design and nonlinear structural analysis

·        Knowledge of ground failure (liquefaction and landslide) and site effects a plus

·        Knowledge of GIS application (e.g, ArcView) a plus

 Requirements:

·        PhD in Earthquake Engineering, Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or other related Engineering disciplines.
