Job Description

Wood Mackenzie Power and Renewables provides a one-stop integrated subscription, analysis and advisory service for companies in the energy and related sectors, enabling our clients to make the best decisions within a constantly evolving global energy industry.

Our cutting-edge knowledge of solar, wind and energy storage supply chains, technologies and investment trends, added to in-depth modelling and coverage of traditional fuels and assets, gives Wood Mackenzie a unique advantage to offer best-in-class market forecasting and insights. 

We have a dynamic and expanding team in Asia Pacific, the largest and most rapidly growing regional power market in the world. Asia Pacific markets are expected to contribute two thirds of future electricity demand growth in coming decades and to play a leading role in deployment of renewable energy and other technologies. 

We are looking for a Solar Market Associate to join the Asia Pacific Power & Renewables team.   The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out market research and gathering data in Asia Pacific markets to support Wood Mackenzie’s Global Solar Markets service. This will include gathering and tracking project data, government policies, company updates and supporting publication of market forecasts, regular reports and research insights. 

About the role

Joining a team of power and renewables experts in the region and globally, you will quickly contribute to our solar research and market forecasts in Asia Pacific.  Key tasks include collecting project, policy and company information across all major markets in Asia Pacific, and carrying out quantitative or qualitative analysis to identify and describe market trends.

With guidance and reasonable inputs from your manager, you will also be a contributor to independently prepare high-quality, insightful written reports, publications and presentations to influence clients’ business decisions. 

You may also be required to support the successful execution of consulting projects from time to time and work closely with Power and Renewables Consulting team, under the guidance of a supervisor or senior experts. Additional tasks will be assigned by the supervisor or senior content leaders.

Over time you are expected to build and maintain relationships with a range of clients and experts in the solar industry.   Through research trips, client interactions and industry events you will pro-actively build your network to understand the key topics and challenges in the industry. 

Qualifications

About you and how you can excel in this role

The role is suitable for someone who is a recent graduate or with 1-2 years of work experience. Key skills and abilities include having an inquisitive and open mind, persistence and willingness to work hard and learn new skills, and a good aptitude for quantitative analysis.  Experience and interest in solar and power markets trends is major plus.  We hope this person can quickly learn the ropes of the solar and power markets and gradually develop into a recognized industry expert and energy transition thought leader. We are open to considering candidates with a variety of backgrounds with the following guidelines:  

·       Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline such as engineering, computer science, physics or economics; master's or PhD a plus

·       1-2 years work experience in an analytical role and/or in an energy related company is preferred

·       Strong organising, planning and time management skills to work to deadlines

·       Proactive, accountable, attention to detail, commitment to excellence

·       Good communicator and a team player

·       Evidence of strong quantitative and data analysis skills

·       Effective writing and presentation skills

·       Fluency in English is mandatory; fluency in an Asian language including Mandarin is a plus

·       Working knowledge of programming or data applications like Python, SQL is a plus
