Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION

Verisk is seeking a software engineer with at least one year of work experience to join its Weather Solutions division in Lexington, MA. This small growing team is responsible for developing and maintaining products and services that aid clients in the insurance, restoration, and related industries in effectively responding to natural catastrophe events. The successful candidate will have experience developing software in a team-oriented commercial environment. The candidate will interact closely with software engineers, scientists, product managers, and other product developers.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications

·         Bachelor’s degree in math, computer science, engineering, or physical science (physics, atmospheric science, earth science, meteorology, etc.).

·         Proficiency (at least 1-year experience) in at least one of the following areas:

o   Scripting: Python, PHP, or JavaScript / node.js

o   Low-level Development: C, C++, or FORTRAN

·         Proficiency in Linux / UNIX / shell scripting.

·         Proficiency in one or more version control systems such as Git, Subversion, Perforce, IBM Rational ClearCase, etc.

Desired Qualifications

·         Experience in software development of scientific or engineering applications.

·         Familiarity with C++ and/or Go.

·         Experience in developing for cloud-based environments, specifically Amazon Web Services (AWS).

·         Experience working with databases (MySQL or PostgresSQL).

·         Experience developing Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).
