Job Description

Location: London / Edinburgh / Singapore / Houston

We are looking for a Head of Economics & Demand to lead the newly created Demand Centre of Excellence (CoE), reporting into our Commodities Research group.   This new role provides an exceptional opportunity to work across Wood Mackenzie, ensuring our demand analysis is a must-have reference source for our clients.  Understanding demand is increasingly important, as the energy transition and shifting patterns of global consumption evolve.  The role will ensure leading edge analytics, technologies and modelling techniques are used to acquire, interpret and forecast demand data.   You will be responsible for our demand-side analysis across all energy and natural resources sectors (Oil, Gas and NGLs, LNG, Coal, Power, Refined Products, Petrochemicals and Metals), ensuring forecast accuracy, credibility and consistency.

About you and how you can excel in this role

You understand the value of data and expert insight for business decision making and want to work in a leading research, analytics and consultancy business. You are passionate about leadership and excellence.

You are an experienced leader in the commodities or natural resources industry.  In doing so, you have shown that you possess sound commercial acumen and have led strategic development within your area, particularly leading through change and business transformation.  It would be an advantage if you have worked with a data and analytics, commercial research or consulting business, and industry knowledge and leadership skills are essential.

The people around you recognise your ability to develop others, building an environment in which people thrive and deliver high quality results.  The way in which you work enables you to build effective, collaborative internal relationships and can influence within a matrix at all levels in the company.  You understand that diversity of experience and thought makes a difference and that working across different geographies requires cultural appreciation.

You are passionate about what you do and the quality of your work makes you credible with clients and able to engage at the senior level.  Your extensive knowledge of modelling methodologies has supported you defining the data strategy for demand and setting the requirements to establish best-in-class demand modelling.  Strengthened by your sector-specific experience you have proposed approaches to forecast energy and natural resources demand, focusing particularly on integrated methodologies for Power, Transport, Industrial Production, Commercial and Residential segments.

If you are looking for a role where you can make positive impact on business results, your own team and those around you, please apply now.

About the role

You will be custodian for demand forecasting methodology for each commodity, segments and key markets.  Leading demand base case forecasting for each update cycle across all commodities, you will define the approach and appropriate level of granularity used by Wood Mackenzie to analyze and forecast demand in each commodity area.  You will bring specific understanding of a range of modelling methodologies applicable to short-term and long-term demand modelling.

Your focus will be to transform the business. This will include contributing to fostering an open, innovative and dynamic environment where unconventional thinking is encouraged.  You will ensure thought leadership is authored highlighting Wood Mackenzie analysis and perspectives on demand and its role in energy transition.

As Head of Demand, you will represent our demand views externally.  You will be able to prioritize what matters to clients and the industry.  Given your engagement with your network of senior-level clients and contacts, you will understand their needs and business priorities.  Internally you will establish efficient demand modelling consistent with the defined forecasting methodologies.  You will also focus on setting up price response functions for demand as part of integrated energy balance modelling, reflecting the interplay between different commodity sectors and energy transition factors.

You will work collaboratively developing demand subject matter expertise and the community of demand analysts in each commodity area.  You will also work closely with the other CoE Leads (in particular Short Term Analytics, Modelling and Economics), commodity Subject Matter Experts, modelling experts, data analysts and data scientists across Research and Technology to ensure that appropriate demand models are developed, used and maintained.  You will ensure Wood Mackenzie’s integrated energy balance modelling incorporates appropriate price elasticity and demand response functions.
