Analyst, EMEARC Wind
- Edinburgh, UK
- Verisk Business: Wood Mackenzie
- Department: Research
We are looking for a Research Analyst to join Wood Mackenzie’s Power and Renewables Research team in EMEARC (Europe, Middle East, Africa and Caspian) regions, covering wind power markets in the region. The Power and Renewables Research Team forms part of our Energy Transition Practice and is a highly respected group of analysts producing market-leading research on the entire renewable energy value chain, covering onshore and offshore wind, solar PV, energy storage and power markets. Our cutting-edge knowledge of wind power supply chains, costs, deployments, and investment trends further strengthens Wood Mackenzie's offerings in the market during this rapidly changing time in the energy sector.
You will be responsible for analysis of a sub-group of wind power markets in the region, focusing on analysis of wind market demand side developments. You will be the internal and external point of contact for wind power in these markets. Key responsibilities of the role will include writing reports, aggregating and summarising project-level datasets, communicating with key industry stakeholders, tracking wind market activity in a subset of EMEARC markets and forecasting installation volumes and pricing trends.
You will work closely with other analysts across the team to ensure the timely and accurate provision of all relevant data.
You will be expected to conduct original quantitative and qualitative research on the market and deliver analysis through written reports, public speaking, addressing customer inquiries and custom research engagements and/or consulting projects. You will also be expected to correspond with, present to, and advise main stakeholders within the wind industry on analysis regarding the wind power landscape and general market dynamics.
About you and how you can excel in this role
Wood Mackenzie promotes analysts as industry experts, you must be thoughtful, intellectually curious, creative and comfortable presenting to public audiences and interacting with small and large groups of executives.
You have an analytical mindset and an eye for detail, which has been proven in your work experience to date, therefore you are comfortable taking complex, disparate ideas and distil them into simple, provocative concepts. You can communicate these ideas and concepts to audiences in an engaging way, verbally and in writing.
You are a strong team player and a natural self-starter who can work independently and generate the ideas you want to share by leveraging and expanding your industry network. You are comfortable disrupting your routine as you will be constantly looking to learn and provide in-depth analysis on industry trends and innovative market dynamics.
And understanding of, and an enthusiasm for renewable energy is important – prior experience of the wind industry in a commercial environment or during your academic studies would be an advantage. Fluency in another language, particularly French and/or German, would also be beneficial. An ability to financially evaluate investment patterns in the wind industry through techniques such as cost modelling analysis and IRR analysis will also be helpful in this role.
- Monitor and maintain relevant wind data for the region by conducting primary and secondary desk research on wind power markets in EMEARC, including market dynamics, policy trends, business models, market developments and financial strategies
- Own and be the project lead on regional and global research products
- Contribute to the global quarterly wind power market outlook by producing an annual installation forecast for a subset of EMEARC markets over a 10-year period
- Liaise on an ongoing basis with the broader Energy Transition Practice to ensure the timely and accurate provision of all relevant data, analyses and forecasts for all research publications
- Collaborate with other analysts globally to leverage best practices across the organization
