Job Description

The consultant role will be a part of Wood Mackenzie’s Oil Markets team, which sets the message and methodology for the consultancy business, providing in-depth fundamental market forecasts for a number of Wood Mackenzie services and consulting projects. The focus of activities will be to provide products and services focused on petroleum demand at main product and sector levels primarily for China while supporting similar work of other Asia Pacific countries.

The successful candidate will work in a global team developing knowledge on oil product demand, forecasting both short- and long-term trends, occasionally supporting consultancy assignments. The role offers the opportunity for an individual to develop forecasting techniques and knowledge through interactions with oil markets specialists in other regions, while working closely with Wood Mackenzie Oil Markets team in Singapore and Beijing to integrate views on product markets in China and across Asia Pacific countries.

In line with Wood Mackenzie’s position as an integrated energy consulting firm, developing views on alternative technologies and consequent demand responses will be important, as well as the impact of environmental legislation and industry policies on oil demand.

Qualifications

  • A good knowledge of the status of petroleum demand in China and/or Asia, and a strong capability to identify key drivers (such as macroeconomic indicators, industrial/consumer activities, domestic fuel prices, vehicle fuel efficiency gains, and related policies and regulations) so that their effect on petroleum demand are quantified in a model.
  • Minimum of bachelor degree in energy economics, chemical engineering, applied statistics, or other relevant discipline.

  • Strong analytical capabilities, along with an ability to work within tight deadlines.

  • Full proficiency with Microsoft Office. Abilities to work with large databases such as SQL Server, make good use of flexible programming language like Python, or data visualization tools such as Power BI would be an advantage.

  • 3 to 5 years of experience as a planner or economist in the petroleum or an oil-user industry such as automobiles.
