Job Description

Atmospheric and Environmental Research (AER) is actively seeking a junior-level systems administrator to support our Space Weather R&D team in Albuquerque, NM.  As a member of the research mission data center you will support multiple projects and play an essential role ensuring the integrity and on-time delivery of customer data sets.  The work will be performed at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at Kirtland Air Force Base.

  • The specialized duties and responsibilities of this position include:
  • Operating and maintaining a tape backup system
  • Supporting and maintaining user accounts
  • Troubleshooting and repairing workstation, server, and peripheral hardware
  • Documenting and tracking problems, and coordinating with senior support and programming staff to resolve system problems
  • This position also requires responding to customer and user support requests, and delivering data products to customers and end users

Qualifications

Competitive candidates must have at least a B.S. Degree plus 2 years experience, or an A.S. Degree plus four year’s experience and good technical and support skills. They must also possess strong technical and communication skills, problem solving and customer interaction skills for a fast-paced R&D environment.

 The following are required:

  • Experience working in a Linux (virtual machine and physical server) environment
  • Experience with cloning software and creating OS images
  • Familiarity with Linux shell scripting
  • Familiarity with the DoD STIG/SCAP/RADIX process and requirements
  • User level support and interaction
  • Ability to obtain Secret Security Clearance
  • Ability to obtain Security+ certification within 90 days of hire

 The following are desired:

  • Good technical and support skills
  • Technical or professional writing experience
  • Exposure to a variety of technologies, such as: Linux, UNIX, KVM – type1 Hypervisor, VirtualBox, VMware, CI/CD concepts, and programming fundamentals
