  • Full-time
  • Verisk Business: Power Advocate

Company Description

PowerAdvocate leads the energy data industry by providing energy companies with clarity into their complex data. Our Energy FactBase, currently at $4+ trillion and growing, helps customers to create operational and financial excellence. We help our clients to understand how they can leverage our unique view of the marketplace to reduce costs and manage operation risk working with executives on the cutting edge in the power, oil and gas, and renewable energy sectors.

We develop applied Machine Learning solutions with the goal of scaling and automating the classification of millions of records of our clients’ supply chain data. For ten years, we have been classifying our clients’ purchasing transactions into our industry-specific categorization schema. This gives us an inordinate amount of training data – millions of rows of classified transactions representing over $4+ trillion of spend. That’s not a typo – four trillion dollars! Our efforts are focused on deploying fully-integrated Machine Learning algorithms to assist our industry experts in leveraging their knowledge at greater scale and efficiency. We have a fertile ground of training data, a can-do entrepreneurial spirit and appreciation for robust and effective analytics approaches to delivering value. We are proud to be a part of the Verisk family of companies!

At the heart of what we do is help clients manage risk. Verisk (Nasdaq: VRSK) provides data and insights to our customers in insurance, energy and the financial services markets so they can make faster and more informed decisions.

Our global team uses AI, machine learning, automation, and other emerging technologies to collect and analyze billions of records. We provide advanced decision-support to prevent credit, lending, and cyber risks. In addition, we monitor and advise companies on complex global matters such as climate change, catastrophes, and geopolitical issues.

But why we do our work is what sets us apart. It stems from a commitment to making the world better, safer and stronger.

It’s the reason Verisk is part of the UN Global Compact sustainability initiative. It’s why we made a commitment to balancing 100 percent of our carbon emissions. It’s the aim of our “returnship” program for experienced professionals rejoining the workforce after time away. And, it’s what drives our annual Innovation Day, where we identify our next first-to-market innovations to solve our customers’ problems.

At its core, Verisk uses data to minimize risk and maximize value. But far bigger, is why we do what we do.

At Verisk you can build an exciting career with meaningful work; create positive and lasting impact on business; and find the support, coaching, and training you need to advance your career.  We’ve been recognized by Forbes as a World’s Best Employer and a Best Employer for Women, testaments to our culture of engagement and the value we place on an inclusive and diverse workforce.

Job Description

Job Summary
PowerAdvocate is a fast-growing company at the intersection of technology, big data, and energy, and we are looking for motivated individuals to help drive strategy, sales, and marketing efforts as a member of our North American Power, Utilities, and Renewable Energy Sales and Marketing team.

Not Your Typical Data Analytics and Software Company
PowerAdvocate was founded with one objective in mind – to enable energy companies to reduce costs and drive efficiency. In order to achieve that objective, we have developed a truly innovative business model centered around a differentiated data-rich product, a SaaS (software-as-a-service) delivery platform, and a high-performing consultative sales and marketing team. This strategy has enabled us to grow our business at an incredible pace, and as a member of the Verisk portfolio of analytics companies, we are targeting even more aggressive growth in the future.

About the Role
As an Associate on the Power, Utilities, and Renewable Energy sales and marketing team, you will play a critical role in supporting our customer engagement efforts, go-to-market strategy, and aggressive future company growth goals. Unlike traditional roles at many other data and software companies, you will have the opportunity to work on projects across the customer relationship lifecycle – from strategy creation to lead generation to deal closing to account management – gaining an unparalleled level of autonomy, responsibility, and client exposure.

While Associates are responsible for a variety of tasks in the service of generating and retaining revenue and accelerating growth for PowerAdvocate, some common activities include:

•    Developing messaging to communicate the value of PowerAdvocate’s software and data products to the market, and managing content marketing campaigns
•    Supporting new market entry efforts
•    Interfacing directly with clients via our consultative sales model and comprehensive account management approach
•    Performing proprietary market analyses to provide unique data insights to the market

Qualifications

Our Associates have come from a variety of professional and educational backgrounds, so we are not solely focused on a candidate’s experience. What we are really looking for are individuals who are smart, ambitious, naturally analytical, hungry to learn, and who want to work in a collaborative, team-based environment. Some other things we are looking for include:

•    Degree from a top tier undergraduate program; 0 – 1 year of experience
•    Strong analytical and communication skills – we want people who can tell a story with numbers, and who aren’t afraid of digging into data
•    Self-starters with a preference for a fast-paced entrepreneurial culture
•    Desire to tackle interesting challenges and unique opportunities with limited guidance

What Else You Will Get
There are a lot of reasons to work at PowerAdvocate, but nothing is as impactful as the business training and professional opportunities you will receive from our team. From day one, you will get:

•    The opportunity to learn foundational business skills that will help jump-start a career in technology, big data, energy (renewable energy, power generation, electric and gas utilities), entrepreneurship, and sales and marketing
•    Significant professional growth in an environment where personal development is a core tenet of the team’s culture
•    The opportunity to take on an enormous amount of responsibility early on in your career
•    Vibrant, start-up culture in a newly renovated office in downtown Boston, close to public transportation
