We are looking for a Principal Analyst to join our Oil Markets team in Houston.  Our Oil and Downstream offerings provide in-depth fundamental market analysis across crude and refined product markets. We provide unsurpassed proprietary data and analysis underpinned by our industry-leading fundamental modelling approach, enabling our clients to understand the oil markets, how they are developing, and ultimately providing them with a platform to make the best strategic decisions.

About you and how you can excel in this role

You have a passion for Oil market analysis, a broad, in-depth understanding of the energy sector, and a keen commercial sense from your current or previous roles in the Global and/or North American Oil markets space. You have an analytical commercial mindset and can formulate leading-edge analysis from a variety of data and information. This is coupled with your ability to communicate highly complex and detailed market analysis, delivering messages that are easily understood.

You are also fully proficient in all aspects of modelling Oil demand. You thrive in a collaborative, commercial and client-centric environment.

Your real passion for what you do and the quality of your work makes you credible with clients and able to engage at a senior level. The way in which you work enables you to build strong, collaborative relationships and can influence at all levels. You use this engagement commercially to understand client perspectives and use cases, and know what is important to their business decisions.

About the role

As part of a world-class team of industry experts, you will be skilled at forecasting oil and oil product demand and you will lead the development of WoodMac’s North American research in this space.  You will have a sophisticated understanding of the key issues that drive Oil demand across different sectors and how to reflect these drivers in sophisticated models. You will be responsible for developing and delivering monthly short-term outlooks, as well as long-term annual outlooks for North American Oil demand.  You will also be a prominent source of insight as demonstrated by your opinions on fundamental demand drivers, and key transitions within the energy business.

Given your engagement with your network of industry contacts, you will understand their business and priorities.  This knowledge will enable you to support the commercial aspects of the Oil market offerings, including creating plans for developing new clients and retaining existing ones. You will be respected as an influential contributor by colleagues, contacts and clients, and will partner with Sales and Marketing to drive the commercial objectives for the Oil and NGLs product suite. You will be expected to lead the way as we value high levels of client contact and pride ourselves in delivering innovative content – before clients ask questions.

  • 8-10 years of experience in a similar role.
