Job Description

We are seeking an HR Generalist to partner with managers, employees and other HR colleagues across a complex business to help accomplish Verisk-wide HR initiatives including financial, cultural and market goals through its talented people. We seek someone who enjoys making a difference by influencing not only people but also the cultural context and operational nexus within which employee work takes place. Whenever possible, we coach, mentor and support managers and employees to grow their capabilities rather than “doing” for them, and we invite those who resonate with this approach to apply.

This position is based in our Jersey City, NJ office, conveniently located across the street from the Newport path station. Just one stop from Christopher Street, we’re an easy 10-minute commute from lower Manhattan (and about 20 minutes from Brooklyn).

Our new HR Generalist will:

  • Provide operational HR support to the Business Unit including the use of the HR systems that enable the management of that
  • Work in partnership with the business to support organisational processes such as the budget cycles, resource planning, reward cycle, succession and talent development, and recruitment
  • Operate with a consultative mindset to drive the business’ people plans forward through HR project delivery, diagnosing issues, implementing solutions and managing risks
  • Monitor, track and analyze metrics in partnership with the HR group to inform business and talent decisions
  • Provide day-to-day performance management guidance to line management (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions)
  • Supports the talent and succession agenda within the business unit ensuring that high potential people are identified and aligned with appropriate development opportunities
  • Coaches managers in the leadership of their people so that they become more skilled and confident in driving a high-performance culture
  • Ensures leaders and their teams own the employee engagement agenda and that they are equipped to engage their people around the key business outcomes needed to drive success
  • Manage the Employee Relations activity to deliver the best possible outcomes for the organisation, whilst working within employment legislation, policies and practices
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partner with the legal and finance teams as needed

Qualifications

We are looking for our candidate to have the following skills, experience, and abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree and relevant industry experience.
  • Minimum of 5+ years' experience in employee relations and other critical HR Generalist responsibilities.
  • Solid practical knowledge of talent management disciplines, such as: performance management, succession planning, talent planning, competency development, compensation, employee relations, and talent analytics.
  • Solid experience with HR operations and metrics
  • Creative and resourceful thinker, with demonstrated experience understanding business goals and concepts into putting them into action plans
  • Ability to manage competing, high-priority demands; prioritize workloads, and manage projects and multiple responsibilities against strict deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal/collaboration skills. Ability to establish credibility/rapport with stakeholders at all levels
  • Passion for performance coaching and management at all levels
  • Superior oral and written communication skills and ability to adjust communication style based on the audience
  • Strong demonstration of analytical skills and ability to prepare executive-ready materials, including mastery of PowerPoint and Excel
  • Be an enthusiastic team player with a strong drive to create a positive work environment
  • Desire to learn more about business and how HR is a critical strategic partner to it
  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or other equivalent HR Professional certifications
