Job Description

We are looking for a Gas Market Consultant / Senior Gas Market Consultant to join our Commodity Analytics Gas/LNG team in Beijing in China. Our Gas & LNG team is responsible for our short and long term gas supply, demand and pricing forecasts, together with corporate perspectives. The team closely tracks key trends and developments in gas and LNG, and then communicates these to clients.

About you and how you can excel in this role

  • Excellent problem solving and technical skills with strategic awareness to integrate client needs into the China gas products and services.
  • Strong English verbal and written skills. You are able to make quality presentations to senior management level and large groups.
  • You have the capacity to work in a regional team and interact with an international team.
  • You will ensure internal management alignment on marketing and sales.
  • Demonstrate the ability to prioritize multiple tasks, consistently meet deadlines, and the capacity to work independently.
  • 3+ years industry, consulting or research experience with China gas market, with knowledge of LNG Trading an advantage.
  • Relevant experience in quantitative understanding and modelling of gas supply/demand fundamentals.  Strong excel skills, with experience of regression and forecasting.
  • Power BI experience advantageous.

 

About the role

You have broad and detailed knowledge of the China natural gas market (and key regional markets) and how supply, demand and pricing fundamentals interact. 

Specifically, you have deepen understanding of demand drivers, forecast gas demand across key sectors and contribute to integrated views on China energy demand and global LNG demand. You will have the opportunity to work across Wood Mackenzie's broader research team to determine fuel switching and relevant industry trends across our commodity analysis. You will help develop commercial opportunities for Wood Mackenzie’s China gas research services, provide the opportunity to develop deep energy-sector expertise, and the potential for significant leadership experience internally and externally. 

You will lead role in determining future gas demand market outlooks, liaising with other in-house experts, including members of other regional Gas and Power, coal, and oils teams, to gain sophisticated  and consensus views on key issues affecting regional industry issues.

You will develop thought leadership via regular insights on key industry themes, events, and long term China gas market trends.

You will maintain and expand relationship with Wood Mackenzie clients and key industry players through regular client visits, Beijing-based client briefing sessions, and throughout Asia Pacific.

You will support sales efforts in particular where a depth of understanding of the China gas market and strategic awareness is required. You will identify areas for enhancement in data coverage, content and workflow, and co-ordinate action to implement improvements.

You will work with the Commercial team and product manager to ensure the China Gas & Power Service fully meets the needs of the target clients and provide input to the ongoing design of the service to ensure that the specification of the product is transmitted into the deliverables.
