Job Description

Become a member of our Tropical Cyclone Team and join our growing Research and Modeling Department. As the research scientist, you will be developing models, creating efficient tools to support all aspects of catastrophe model to help clients manage their tropical cyclone risks.

About the Day to Day Responsibilities of the Role

  • Collect, analyze, and integrate a wide range of observational and numerical model data into the modeling process

·       Perform validation analysis of model simulation output using observational data

·       Work with established research and modeling teams to conduct new research and to assimilate emerging meteorological research into tropical cyclone catastrophe models

·       Perform data analysis

·       Interact with other teams to provide expert opinion and present results

·       Address client questions and interact with clients to help them better understand how catastrophes impact risk to property and how our models work

QUALIFICATIONS

About You and How You Can Excel in This Role

·       Solid knowledge of meteorology. Background and experience in tropical cyclone meteorology would be considered a significant advantage. 

·       Familiarity and comfort with manipulating observational data sets. Experience in data assimilation is a plus.

·       Strong skills gained through practical experience using high-level language and tools such as Python, C++, MATLAB, FORTRAN

·       Proficiency in working in a Linux/Unix environment, including scripting in languages such as C-shell, Bash

·       Ability to gather, integrate, and critically analyze data from all relevant sources of natural hazard information such as national and international agencies, insurance data, private entities

·       Excellent written and verbal communication skills

 

 

 

Qualifications

·       3+ years professional experience in a technical environment

·       M.S. or Ph.D. degree in meteorology, geosciences or related fields
