Job Description

AIR Worldwide is looking for an enthusiastic, passionate and ambitious Scientific Research Manager to join our Consulting and Client Service Team. The mission of our team is to build client relationships based on the detailed knowledge of AIR’s extreme event models and products to meet the needs of our client’s modeling workflow, so they can easily understand their risk.  We strive to provide exemplary service and support that allows clients to obtain the maximum value from the extreme event models. products and services that they license from AIR.

Main Responsibilities:

·        Perform sophisticated catastrophe model and related analyses for insurers, brokers, reinsurers and other financial intermediaries in the internationally expanding business of extreme event risk management, with a focus on unique or bespoke projects requiring scientific and engineering experience and expertise

·        Respond to clients’ technical model related questions in a timely manner and help bring them to a speedy and accurate resolution by working collaboratively with our internal teams

·        Design and deliver scientific and engineering focused presentations covering hazard, vulnerability and model validation topics to new and existing clients across the full range of our catastrophe models to an audience with mixed experience levels

·        Assist in a wide of range of risk analyses from a scientific and engineering perspective in support of consulting projects, client support, and internal initiatives

·        Communicate directly with clients to develop timelines and manage expectations regarding technical model related projects

·        Employ project management best practices when performing consulting studies and other mid- to large-scale projects

·        Develop strong relationships with model users and technical teams including scientists and engineers within our clients; learn their objectives and approaches to evaluating and validating our models; and provide proactive service to help them avoid pitfalls and to leverage our models optimally

·        Lead on-boarding initiatives involving scientific, engineering and model validation efforts for new clients in close coordination with our internal teams as needed.  This includes supporting the understanding and validation of our models on an individual component basis and overall, the usage and interpretation of model results, and addressing technical model related challenges with adopting or transitioning to AIR

·        Work closely with our business development and senior management teams to develop and maintain client-specific initiatives related to model education, validation and acceptance

·        Support model change management efforts from a scientific and engineering perspective and work closely with the CCSG team to deliver the results

·        Provide input to our internal teams regarding enhancements to our catastrophe models based on client feedback and your internal usage of our models.  Remain engaged with the internal teams through model design, development and release

·        Support our business development team in sales efforts in a scientific and engineering support capacity

·        Provide real-time support to our clients from a scientific and engineering perspective during a natural catastrophe.  This includes pre and post event support.

·        Represent AIR on technical model related topics in a range of forums including at our conferences, industry events, media opportunities and one-on-one meetings

·        Serve as a primary liaison between CCSG and Research on client requests and projects that require Research support

·        Serve as an ambassador of AIR to our clients and prospects particularly in relation to technical model related topics

·        Be a team player on the CCSG team, ready to help on projects outside of your core focus area when needed

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

·        Data analysis using SQL, MS Access, R or equivalent

·        Ability to manage multiple projects

·        Proactive problem-solving skills

·        Detailed and Results orientated

·        Client Service focused

·        Detailed knowledge of hazard and vulnerability modules of catastrophe models 

·        Knowledge of AIR Software and Models is a plus

Requirements:

·        5 to 6 years’ experience in consulting, insurance fields or research orientated role

·        Masters or PhD in Science or Engineering related field
