Job Description

We are looking for a Senior Analyst to join our Metallurgical Coal Team. This role is based in the US and cover Atlantic Basin coal supply and markets with an emphasis on metallurgical coal. As part of the Metals and Mining Research Unit, the Metallurgical Coal Team are responsible for delivering comprehensive research coverage of the global metallurgical coal sector including supply, demand, pricing, and costs.

You have a deep understanding of coal mine operations and cost analysis. You understand how mines are financed and have experience in mine development strategy. You understand the big picture by having intimate knowledge of the industry including companies, infrastructure, and trade. You are analytical and can extract insight from your in-depth research and provide clients with clear, coherent conclusions about the industry.

You find communicating complex or technical information in an easily understood message to come naturally in formats ranging from emails to presentations and long-form reports. You are passionate about what you do and your quality of work makes you credible with our clients. You thrive in a collaborative, commercial and client-centric environment. 

You have a proven track record of fostering strong working relationships including coaching, influencing, and developing others around you. The way in which you work is productive and driven, striving to be best in class. You often share ideas and find better ways of working.


About the role

As part of a world-class team of industry experts, you will quickly become adept at enhancing our research and market intelligence on coal mining activities in the US. You will work in a small but passionate team that will take advantage of your intimate knowledge of coal supply activities but will challenge you to be involved in all aspects of the global metallurgical coal markets. You will need to be efficient and self-motivated as well as being able to work well within the team and with other commodity groups. You will efficiently develop research data and also develop opinions and draw out conclusions from that data.

Through research trips and client interactions, you will build relationships with senior contacts at key companies and bodies. You will develop a unique perspective and understanding of the metallurgical coal industry. Your knowledge will be highly valued by Wood Mackenzie's clients, with whom you will share your insight via industry-leading written reports, economic models, and presentations.

Your contributions will be influential from the beginning. You will be in demand and able to make a difference as we value high levels of client contact and pride ourselves in answering their questions.

You will work collaboratively as part of Wood Mackenzie’s Metal and Mining Research Unit, to develop and implement a content strategy identifying and capitalising on commercial opportunities.
