Job Description

We are looking for a Iron Ore and Steel Principal Consultant to join our China bulks Research team in Shanghai in China. As a part of a global team, the China bulks team provides clients with high-quality commercial analysis in the bulks sector, to help clients to make better decision to secure their business success. The China bulks team play a vital role in formulating Wood Mackenzie's global bulk commodity forecasts by providing high-level regional analysis for Chinese iron ore, coal and steel sectors on-ground.

 

About you and how you can excel in this role

You are degree-qualified in a relevant discipline (e.g. Economics / Business or Mining / Geology / Metallurgical Engineering etc.), and you have experience of the consultancy of steel and iron ore markets through employment at a consulting or resource company or in the financial sector. 

You have participated in supporting sales and marketing activities and have assisted assist in the on-going development of client relationships. You have co-operated with Consulting, Sales and Marketing teams in the Business Development process.

You have visited and engaged with clients and prospects to foster the exchange of information.

Most importantly, you have computer literate with in depth knowledge of MS Office products.

 

About the role

Reporting to Senior Manager in the bulks research team, you will have a track record in analysing steel and raw materials (iron ore, met coal, scrap) markets and will be able to interact with industry participants at a variety of levels in order to both obtain information and to communicate insight. You will form part of a highly respected team responsible for consulting the metals sector and specifically the wider carbon steel industry.

Specifically, you are looking to develop your career as a metals and mining consultant and will allow for opportunities in new areas of consulting, new product developments and in consulting assignments.

You will apply solid analytical capabilities and knowledge of the steel  and iron ore industries to produce analysis of the market to include: supply, demand and price forecasts. You are responsible for reconciliation of data on supply, demand and trade from a variety of sources and entering into Wood Mackenzie proprietary systems.

You will be establishing and maintaining contacts with industry stakeholders to acquire proprietary data and knowledge.

You will apply communication of consulting result to clients via written reports and through presentations (including webcalls, podcasts, presentations) and face-to-face meetings.
