Job Description

 

We are looking for a Data Manager to lead one of the Data Teams in EMEARC Upstream. Based in Edinburgh, this role is responsible for a multi-location team dedicated to maintaining high-quality data in our core Upstream products. This is a fantastic opportunity to lead and influence change at an exciting time in our organisation.

 

About you and how you can excel in this role

You understand the value of data for business decision-making and want to work in a leading research, analytics and consultancy organisation. You have substantial applied knowledge of databases such as NoSQL or SQL Server, and can make good use of data visualisation tools such as Spotfire, Power BI, Tableau or GIS. You will have an understanding of how web scraping or automation techniques can be applied in addition to full proficiency in MS Office. You have experience working in a data role in the energy industry.

Your knowledge and a proven track record in people management and personal impact is essential.

You are hardworking and inquisitive, known for your commitment to excellence and problem-solving abilities. You thrive working with others across different teams as well as independently to deliver results. You enjoy working in tight timescales and finding innovative ways to work more efficiently.

You are a self-starter looking to add value using your data experience in a collaborative, commercial and client-centric environment.  

You are client focused and your real passion is planning, implementation and control, problem-solving and building and maintaining relationships, which makes you credible and reliable with stakeholders.

 

About the role

You will have primary responsibility for leading a high quality data team, providing the motivation and inspiration to deliver market-leading data and client solutions by transforming current workflows that are aligned with WoodMac 2.0. One of your key objectives will be developing individuals to ensure we maximise the potential of the entire team. 

Using your commercial awareness and a deep understanding of the data, you will identify ways in which it can be used effectively to help our clients make decisions. This is a role in which you will add value and help us achieve our business goals to efficiently deliver high-quality data to our clients.

You will be able to prioritise what matters to clients and your team, having regular interaction with senior business stakeholders. Your focus will be to champion change, fostering an open, innovative and dynamic team environment. You will ensure that we embrace new technologies or techniques to improve data processes and workflow.

Wood Mackenzie’s ongoing digital transformation aims to redefine how customers interact with our comprehensive, industry-leading data. You, and your reports, will have opportunities to lead projects and initiatives to improve data quality or processes’, ensuring your team is operating towards the wider strategy.
