Job Description

We are looking for a Consultant to join our Research team in Beijing China. A key aspect of the role will be to consult on refined product markets primarily for China. This role will play an important part in Wood Mackenzie’s downstream product and service offerings in Asia Pacific. The successful candidate will actively participate in the consultation on crude oil and refined product markets in Asia Pacific.

 

About you and how you can excel in this role

You have 5-7 years of relevant industry experience gained by working in refining/oil trading/oil shipping industry, preferably in a commercial/analytical role. You have good understanding of the refining sector, knowledge of oil product markets, and the ability to visualise the implications and dynamics of events in downstream industry. You have degree in energy economics, chemical engineering, statistics, or other relevant discipline would be a particular advantage.

You have a good understanding of quantitative methods and their application, preferably in refinery economics. You have excellent problem solving, technical and writing skills, including advanced knowledge of Excel and Access databases, along with an ability to work within tight deadlines.

You have strong communication skills, both written and oral; ability to communicate key concepts and trends of the refining sector (both internal and external). You have the ability to work as part of a team involving multiple locations and time zones. The successful candidate will be willing to travel to Wood Mackenzie and client offices.

You have a commitment to excellence in order to meet high quality standards expected internally and externally. You have good written and spoken English and Chinese language skills.

 

About the role

You will work with other highly motivated professionals analysing the key issues that influence and challenge the downstream oil industry. The role offers the opportunity for an individual to develop forecasting techniques and knowledge.

You will examine developments and industry trends including refinery investments, refined product balances, government regulations, and assess their impacts on prices and margins, industry structure, and trade patterns for East of Suez, focusing on China.  You will analyse the key trends of refined product markets in both the short- and medium/long-term from a fundamentals perspective. Write high-quality analysis on the key issues/trends for the downstream oil industry.

You will supporting growth of our network in China to improve the quality of our sources of information and consulting services. You will supporting the growth of Wood Mackenzie’s oils sector client base in China.

You will respond to internal and external enquiries regarding China oil market forecasts. You will present the short and long term market outlooks to clients and prospects in meetings and via web-calls. 

You will support development and enhancement of models for oil product demand, supply, balances and price forecasting for a variety of end uses, including optimisation of the company’s proprietary database. You will provide technical advice to consulting mandates in conjunction with the consulting team.
