Job Description

We are looking for a Lead Oil Market Modeler to join our global team.  Our dedicated oil and gas sector teams are located around the world, and deliver research and consulting projects based on our assessment and valuation of thousands of individual assets. Together we work with a range of clients including national and major oil companies, operators, investment banks and institutional investors.

About you and how you can excel in this role

You understand the value of data for business decision-making and want to work in a leading research, data analytics and consultancy organisation.  You have knowledge of the energy markets with a specific focus on the global oil market and understand North American tight oil production. 

You understand the challenges of managing multiple streams of data and ensuring data integrity. You would join us with advanced excel skills and a working knowledge of other BI tools.  This is coupled with your data visualisation skills and a basic knowledge of Python is desirable.   You gained these skills in a data-centric, commercial environment.

You have strong numerical skills, experience building quantitative models and find it easy to communicate complex or technical information.  This is supported by your ability to convey messages that are easily understood by a range of stakeholders. 

You have a proven track record of fostering strong working relationships including coaching, influencing and developing others around you. The way in which you work is efficient and you often share ideas and find better ways of working.

You thrive in a collaborative, commercial and client-centric environment. 

About the role

As part of a world-class team of industry experts, you will be responsible for Wood Mackenzie’s proprietary oil market modelling solution: the Oil Price Model. You will also be a prominent source of insight having developed an understanding of the mathematical logic and dynamic solving algorithm of the model in order to suggest enhancements.    

Using your commercial awareness and a deep understanding of the data, you will identify ways in which the model can be used effectively to help our clients make decisions. This is a role in which you will add value and help us achieve our business goals to efficiently deliver high-quality data to our clients.

You will have primary responsibility for the sourcing, maintenance, quality and control of data sets, as well as running and generating insights from the model after having extracted and prepared the data You will also train, monitor and coach less-experienced colleagues to help them grow and do their best work.
