Job Description
The Data Infrastructure Architect – Data Mesh is an innovation leader in a key technical role that will architect and grow a new data framework for scalable analytics and innovation. This new framework is called “Data Mesh” and building a reusable network of data assets that are discoverable, reliable, and simple to understand is the currency of the Data Mesh. The Data Architect will lead the design and build of the infrastructure framework, and influence data design and engineering across the company, enabling the creation and activation of these assets. This role will report to the Chief Architect. We're looking for a strong data guru and architect with a balanced set of leadership and business acumen. We need someone who thrives on creating value at the intersection of data, technology, and business opportunity and who understands and appreciates the value of a data-sharing centric organization. You are someone who has supported the philosophical shift to becoming a data-sharing organization. You have enabled the technology shift through your skills and expertise — a shift from application-centric to data-centric.
The Data Architect partners with the C-Level technical team, Senior Leadership, Engineering, Big Data Platform, Data Science, Data Activation, Product
Management, Analytics, and other teams to define and deliver on our data mesh framework and architecture. Excellent communication and presentation skills are required, along with strong technical knowledge of big data & cloud infrastructure services. Experience in advertising technology and digital marketing is a plus but not required. KEY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leadership: Lead and guide a team of data engineers and experts in the development and delivery of the new data framework, while influencing strategy and adoption across the organization.
- Technical: Provide technical expertise and influence while utilizing and understanding the ideal technologies, methodologies, frameworks, and capabilities needed to build, maintain, and scale a distributed but robust data infrastructure and framework
- Builder: Design, help guide engineers to build, be hands-on and be willing to code and scale a new Data Mesh framework “from the ground up”
- Balance: Help influence the creation of “data product” standards that balance necessary flexibility with consistency in data discoverability, quality, usability, and security.
- "Owner” Mindset: Collaborate across many functions of the organization, ensuring that the data framework is meeting the needs of the organization
- Change management: Must be able to communicate complex technical ideas in understandable terms for different audiences to accomplish objectives
Qualifications
EDUCATION
- Bachelor's Degree in CS/CIS/MIS, Engineering, (Required)
- In lieu of the above education requirements, a combination of experience and education will be considered.
EXPERIENCE
- 5 - 7 years Experience leading data teams (Required)
- 10+ years Software development and architecture experience in hi-tech or B2C SaaS companies with strong growth profiles (Required)
- Experience architecting and building high availability systems and applications
- A strong understanding of the SDLC and Agile project management is required
- Experience with DevOps tools and processes is preferred, but at minimum a demonstrated close working relationship with DevOps during SDLC is
- required
- Past experience with Data as a service (DaaS) projects preferred
- Experience creating data and technical architectures that reflect the organizations strategies and goals
- Experience in cloud and cloud hybrid infrastructure is a plus
- Technical mindset with a demonstrated track record of understanding complex systems and projects
- Proven experience in API development preferably in a SaaS application environment
- Experience working closely with Data Security is also preferred
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Ability to translate and map business requirements to technical implementations to provide clarity to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Mastery of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and comfort leading software and data engineers
- Proven ability to design and build software and data solutions
- Deep focus on team execution, follow-through, accountability, and results
- Ability to communicate effectively with senior technical and business stakeholders
- Mastery of knowledge of big data ETL practices and technologies
- Mastery of knowledge of designing and building data architectures and frameworks; bonus if have done so for “first of a kind” / new technology
- within an enterprise organization
- Cloud platform expertise (such as AWS) required – AWS certifications a plus
- Experience with various data formats including streams, databases and files, and associated frameworks and design patterns
- Familiarity with big data technologies including the Hadoop framework
- Experience with API lifecycle management
- Strong growth mentality and a servant leadership approach
- Expertise with enterprise API Management (such as Mulesoft) required – Mulesoft certifications a plus
- Expertise with Snowflake integrations a plus
DECISION MAKING
Impact you will have:
- Work with stakeholders to deliver a target-state data framework and capabilities over a year to multi-year horizon
- Establish a scalable infrastructure for the company’s analytical data plane, establishing policy that can evolve as the data mesh matures.
- Establish a growing library of data assets across the organization
- Establish a common and repeatable discovery, vetting, and prioritization process for the ongoing expansion of the mesh and infrastructure platform
- Lead cross-domain data engineers to deliver on common design patterns, technology standards, and data governance practices
- Develop, communicate, and curate IT architectural principles and policies aligning architecture with best practices while keeping security and privacy at the forefront
- Influence the buildout of the data team and the Data Mesh, with an opportunity for increased leadership and scope as we achieve scale
Additional Information
Salary: $175,000-$195,000
Position is eligible for an annual bonus incentive program.
The ultimate compensation offered for the position will depend upon several factors such as skill level, cost of living, experience, and responsibilities.
