Job Description

Warehouse Supervisor Position Summary:

To ensure the accurate and timely receipt, storage and distribution of all Valassis material to production, in an efficient and safe manner.   Supervise, train, inspect and manage daily, personnel and projects as required.   Keeps Plant Manager and staff apprised of work schedules and progress on activities; relates any pertinent information which affects productivity and/or effectiveness of operations; participates in long term planning to help develop programs, strategies and goals which maximize future growth and profitability. 

Key Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Establishes and implements operational procedures for activities such as verification of incoming and outgoing shipments, handling and disposition of materials
  • Ensure all material delivered to Valassis is received, recorded and placed in inventory in an accurate and timely manner.  Receiving Exception Report is generated and distributed
  • Accountable for the integrity of the Receiving/Material Inventory Control database and troubleshooting system failures
  • Provide Production with accurate quantities and versions of copy in a timely manner minimizing machine downtime     
  • Provides Production with detailed plan for weekly shipments while maintaining flexibility to accommodate late copy and/or production
  • Research lost copy, problem copy and late copy issues in support of Sales, Client Services and Production, communicating findings in a timely manner
  • Communicate job performance standards to associates.  Provide timely and consistent feedback, coach and motivate associates to exceed expectations
  • Coordinate labor resources to ensure all receiving/inventory control functions have an adequate number of associates to perform job responsibilities in a cost effective manner
  • Ensure proper copy disposition (i.e. kill/save), disposal and recycling of all excess material
  • Accountable for accurate weight verification as requested by clients
  • Ensure a safe and secure environment for all associates by heightening safety awareness through training and feedback of safe working techniques and housekeeping practices
  • Ensure certification of all associates utilizing material handling equipment
  • Manages associate relations issues including, but not limited to staff development, team building, staffing, corrective actions, and terminations as appropriate and in compliance with Company policies and procedures
  • Provide fair and consistent administration of company policies and procedures regarding attendance, safety policies, job performance, etc. to ensure positive associate relations

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • Communicates job performance standards to associates.  Provide timely and  consistent feedback, coach and motivate associates to exceed expectations.  Develop performance improvement plans as appropriate
    and administer corrective action as needed
  • Responsible for reconciliation of hours for payroll and tracking of attendance
  • Provides fair and consistent administration of company policies and procedures regarding attendance, safety policies, job performance, etc. to ensure positive associate relations

Communication & Contacts (Internal/External):

  • Informs leaders and other internal clients (Sales, MDT) of pertinent information and communicates to other departments as necessary

Decision Making Scope:

  • Measures and monitors to focus on continued improvement of Valassis warehouse and delivery processes and systems
  • Accepts or rejects incoming copy based on skid condition, copy condition, pallet height
  • Schedules receiving hours to accommodate in coming copy
  • Determines when to involve CS, Sales and/or clients in copy related issues
  • Recommends material handling equipment purchases based on testing, performance and costs

Other:

  • Functions as member of emergency responses team providing equipment and utility shut down and assistance to emergency personnel as required

Qualifications

Education & Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of warehouse management and transportation/distribution logistics and methods preferred
  • Bachelor Degree in Supply Chain Management or related field preferred  (or equivalent related work experience)
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience managing staff preferred

Experience / Skills / Abilities: (Identify what is required and what is preferred)

  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in transportation, warehouse management and inventory control utilizing current technology and processes preferred
  • Good management skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong problem solving, communication and presentation skills.
  • Able to handle multiple tasks and work in a fast pace environment
  • Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Ability to work extended hours, weekends and holidays

Base Salary: Minimum $60,000 - Maximum $75,000

Position is eligible for a 4% annual bonus incentive program.

The ultimate compensation offered for the position will depend upon several factors such as skill level, cost of living, experience, and responsibilities.
