Maintenance Technician 3 - 1st Shift

JOB SUMMARY

Perform preventive/corrective maintenance on equipment and facility. Assist Operators with minor maintenance issues to consistently obtain the standard operating efficiency of the system and minimize safety, quality, and downtime risks. Ability to demonstrate the operation of and test the equipment and analyze malfunctions to correct the problem. Advanced troubleshooting skills and takes lead on diagnosing difficult or infrequent problems with equipment. Proficient in at least three areas of printing, bindery, or packaging machine maintenance. Ability to conduct rebuilds on equipment. Maintains records of repairs, calibrations, tests, and standard setting processes. Communicates equipment problems that are beyond their abilities to the support group. Identify and lead training opportunities for Level 1 and Level 2 Maintenance Technicians, as well as operators. Manages parts/consumables process to include improving or increasing consumable life and parts reliability. Prepares technical reports to document equipment modifications and equipment maintenance procedures. Leading internal and company-sponsored projects working closely with Corporate Engineering and other print facilities to accomplish company strategic directives. 

KEY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist operators with minor maintenance issues as needed and replace broken or damaged items in a timely manner. Performs electrical and/or mechanical troubleshooting and repairs in response to equipment errors or failures.
  • Ability to review, interpret, and understand performance data that will enable them to identify and implement performance improvement activities.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and audits.
  • Make recommendations on repair strategy and priority.
  • Identify document train and perform maintenance best practices.
  • Lead and/or assist with local Engineering upgrades and projects.
  • Assist with facilities maintenance and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent (required)
  • Mechanical and/or Electronic courses (preferred)

EXPERIENCE

  • Typically requires greater than five years experience or equivalent education.
  • Strong mechanical reasoning skills and conscientiousness. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under time constraints. Strong communication and problem-solving skills. Experience using Windows based PC applications. Experience with electronics, pneumatics PLC controls, and robotics. Strong root cause analysis skills should be demonstrated.
  • Must have strong analytical skills, strong verbal and written communication skills, the ability to work with a diverse set of personalities and skillsets, and be creative in nature.
  • Advanced electrical troubleshooting on AC / DC circuits with multi-meter.
  • Demonstrated ability to read electrical schematics to facilitate machine troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with varied PLC control platforms directly or over networks.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with servo controls and frequency drives.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with saws, drills, cutters, grinders, torches, welders, and other fabrication equipment as needed.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Repair machines immediately or prepare a work order due to the complexity of the work.

EQUIPMENT/SOFTWARE UTILIZED

  • Powered industrial trucks, forklift, and pallet jack.
  • Handheld Multi-meter for Ac / DC electrical circuits.

COMMUNICATION AND CONTACTS

Converses with equipment operators to ascertain whether mechanical, controls, or human error contributed to equipment failures. Requires continuous communication with Team Leaders and Managers to update status and align equipment priorities. Communication with suppliers, customers (internal and external), and corporate engineering is required. 

DECISION MAKING

Judgment and decision-making required on a daily basis concerning machine downtime and troubleshooting.  Demonstrate the ability to determine quality or safety failures from machine troubleshooting.

OTHER

Have working knowledge of lock out tag out and hot work permits procedures. Requires following instructions and procedures closely.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING CONDITIONS

  • The ability to perform physical labor, prolonged walking, standing, lifting up to 40lbs. on a regular basis, stooping, bending and ladder climbing.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule. Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays.

Additional Information

Hourly pay $29.40

The ultimate compensation offered for the position will depend upon several factors such as skill level, cost of living, experience, and responsibilities.
