Job Description

Position Purpose: 

The Senior Associate, Water Quality Compliance supports water and wastewater quality compliance programs at assigned facilities under the guidance of senior staff, assisting in regulatory adherence and continuous improvement initiatives. This role requires solid technical knowledge of environmental regulations, basic risk assessment capabilities, and the ability to support corrective action implementation. Working closely with site operations teams and reporting to the Senior Principal, Water Quality Compliance, this position focuses on compliance support activities, data collection and analysis, and developing technical expertise to help maintain water quality standards.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Compliance Strategy & Action Plans: 
    • Support the execution of compliance strategies and action plans for drinking water and wastewater systems at assigned facilities.
    • Assist in implementing site practices aligned with relevant compliance frameworks (e.g., Safe Drinking Water Act, Clean Water Act).
    • Help develop and maintain facility-specific compliance procedures and protocols under supervision.
  • Risk Assessment & Corrective Actions: 
    • Assist in conducting facility-level risk assessments to identify compliance vulnerabilities.
    • Support the implementation of corrective actions and management plans under senior guidance.
    • Participate in root cause analysis for compliance issues and help develop technical solutions.
  • Regulatory Trends & Business Opportunities: 
    • Monitor regulatory updates and assist in analyzing potential impacts on assigned facilities.
    • Support senior staff in providing technical input for Business Development initiatives.
    • Assist in conducting water quality risk reviews of existing operations.
  • Data Management & KPI Tracking: 
    • Collect, verify, and enter water quality data into compliance tracking databases for assigned facilities.
    • Assist in generating facility-level KPI reports and dashboards to monitor compliance performance.
    • Support data analysis activities and help prepare technical summaries for management.
  • Collaboration & Best Practices: 
    • Work with site operations teams to support implementation of best practices and daily compliance activities.
    • Participate in knowledge sharing activities across facilities to support overall compliance performance.
    • Assist in developing standardized procedures and reporting protocols.
  • Technical Training & Guidance:
    • Support delivery of technical training on environmental and water quality regulations to site personnel.
    • Assist in conducting environmental and water compliance audits under senior supervision.
    • Provide basic technical support during water quality issues and help with laboratory quality assurance activities.

Work Environment:

  • Primarily office-based with occasional travel (up to 25%) to water treatment facilities or operational sites. 
  • Collaboration with cross-functional teams, including operations, maintenance, and engineering.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background: 

    • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field. 
    • 0–5 years of experience in environmental compliance, preferably in the water industry. 
    • Experience with regulatory inspections and audits. 
    • Experience with SAAS software. 
    • Experience with environmental compliance software (e.g., Intelex, Envirosuite, AQI WIMS/LabCal) is a plus.

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

    • Strong understanding of water quality regulations (e.g., Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Water Act). 
    • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting.
    • Knowledge of statistical analysis techniques.
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
    • Ability to conduct field inspections and site visits, which may involve standing, walking, or bending for extended periods. 
    • Comfortable working in both office and operational environments, sometimes requiring the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). 

    Required Certification/Licenses/Training: 

    • Water/Wastewater licenses are preferred.
