Job Description
Position Purpose:
Under the authority of the project manager, the laboratory technician analyzes used water samples, routine for the control of operations and clean water to ensure quality. The Lab Technician performs a variety of chemical, biological, and physical tests required for research, development or quality control. This position compiles data for reports and assists in special studies in the laboratory and in the field.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
- Prepare samples for analysis.
- Adequately complete laboratory documentation.
- Perform equipment maintenance according to established procedures.
- Monitor non-standard results with the coordinator.
- Perform various maintenance tasks in the laboratory (e.g. work areas).
- Perform any other tasks deemed compatible with its function, when required by the department head.
Work Environment:
- The incumbent spends most of the time in a lab environment.
- Work schedule: Monday to Friday
Qualifications
Education/Experience/Background:
- Associate's degree or equivalent, with coursework in qualitative and quantitative Chemistry or biology preferred. (Must meet minimum qualifications established by regulatory agencies if working in a NELAC or State Certified Lab).
- Bilingualism (spoken and written).
- Master the techniques of industrial laboratory analysis.
- Zero to two years of experience in a related position in a similar environment with ability to use laboratory apparatus and equipment to perform accurate, repeatable work and to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
- Experience in the use of certain analytical chemistry equipment such as gas chromatograph, calorimeter, etc.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Exposure to computerized lab equipment and related systems preferred.
- Basic computer skills (eg Microsoft Office).
- To be able to work in a dynamic environment and under pressure.
- Good analytical and synthesis spirit.
- Autonomy and initiative.
- Good sense of ethics.
- Good communication.
- Abilities for teamwork.
- Good learning ability.
Additional Information
Pay Range: $20.00 to $25.00 per hour.
