Job Description
Position Purpose:
The incumbent will be accountable for optimizing water production and water quality while conducting operational and field inspection duties related to water production facilities and equipment.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
- Perform all aspects of sample collecting per NJDEP requirements to monitor water quality in the distribution system and at treatment plant (BAC-T, THM, VOC, CL2, L&C, TOC, etc.…)
- Perform Calibration and Verification on all lab and Process equipment.
- Optimizes day-to-day plant operations including operability and plant process control (SCADA).
- Monitor water production operations, storage and treatment systems including booster pumps, storage tanks, emergency interconnections stations and related facilities, chemical application equipment, water main chlorination and de-chlorination.
- Establishing the proper chemical dosing and inventory at all facility (treatment plant).
- Investigate complaints regarding water quality and system pressure and notify on-call personnel when appropriate.
- Perform maintenance, and repair of all equipment at the water treatment plant and distribution system (such as cleaning tanks and filter beds, using backwashing (reverse flow of water), repair and lubricate machines and equipment, using hand tools and power tools).
- Recommend solutions to operational and technical problems.
- Adhere to all regulatory requirements (sampling, water quality monitoring and reporting, operator certification, audits, inspections …)
- Determine need and feasibility of major repairs on individual pieces of equipment; consults with user departments to recommend repair or replacement of equipment.
- Maintain/Update all reporting databases for Production Department.
- Maintains all plant system equipment.
- Follow standard operating procedures and best practices to ensure compliance.
- Transfer chemicals from one building to another as needed.
- Conduct safety monitoring at the facility (treatment plant).
- Prepare reports as required.
- Operate and perform maintenance and repair on Belt Press.
- Must be able to respond to emergency calls and work extended hours as needed (the incumbent must be member of the Rahway Emergency Response Team and emergency callout rotation).

Qualifications
Education/Experience/Background:
- High School Diploma/GED is required.
- 3 to 5 years of related experience in water treatment preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to learn to operate specialized computer systems and equipment relative to water monitoring and control (SCADA).
- A general knowledge of water treatment and mechanical maintenance is desirable.
- Basic knowledge of chemistry, biology and mathematics.
- Mechanical aptitude and mathematical skills are required.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with people at all levels, both internally and externally.
- The incumbent supports the company’s commitment to safety by complying with the programs regarding health, safety and protection of the environment. The incumbent demonstrates safe work practices, takes part in safety meetings as required, and advises the supervisor of any non-conforming conditions.
Required Certification/Licenses/Training:
- Participate in continuous improvement program.
- Participate on cross-functional teams.
- Additionally, the incumbent must obtain the NJ DEP Water T-1, within two years of employment.
- The incumbent must be in possession of a valid driver’s license.
Physical Requirements:
- Must possess both the skills and physical ability to perform routine maintenance procedures for pumps, motors and control equipment. Must have physical strength and health to physically move and carry fifty (50) pounds.
Additional Information
Pay Range: $32.73 per hour.
